Hi everyone,
I will be in PAP on my first visit to Haiti on the 14th and 15th May. I have travelled extensively throughout the region but during my time in Haiti I want someone to help me understand the culture, interact with the locals, enable me to take some photographs and possibly attend a voudou ceremony.

Any information is much appreciated,

Wayne

Thank you to those who have posted recent info on their travels through Haiti. I've found it all to be very helpful.

I'll be traveling through Haiti, starting in the north, through 14 March. If anyone traveling ahead of me has any tips or heads up calls, I'd appreciate them. If anyone is looking for a travel partner for all or some of the time, I'd be interested to hear about your plans or ideas. My budget is flexible to a point, but my departure date is solidly set.

I'll do my best to post…

Possible with (inter)national carriers w/o setting foot in U.S.? What is the best rate? Talking mid July.

Or shall I opt for a boat if any?

Hey folks!

Will be traveling to Haiti for 6 days in early June with a buddy. On our last day we have the option of flying back to PAP from Cap where we will have just finished up. I have seen that there are buses available for getting to Dominican Republic, but I'm not crazy about buses as a pretty tall guy. Are these even reliable?

I would like to find a flight to Santo Domingo that doesn't involve a 24 hour wait in Turks & Caicos (!) or through Miami, or to find a reliable driver to take me…

We spent just two nights in Cap-Haïtien, and not quite two full days. I think we could have enjoyed staying longer, but we were using this as an entrance point to go to smaller communities in the north (Milot and Labadie), and then as a stopover on our way back to Port-Au-Prince. (We were in the north for a total of five days.) As far as cities go, Cap is pretty quiet, and art is not abundant as it is in Jacmel. So maybe we would have run out of things to do if we had lengthened our stay too…

From Jacmel and surrounding region, we decided to head back to PAP by way of the "road" from Séguin to Furcy, taking some time to explore Parc Nationale La Visite. Note that this is the opposite direction that most people hike.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. We found Séguin very beautiful, and the local people very warm. Blans seem to not be very common visitors, and the small children would burst into delighted squeals (or sometimes squeals of surprise and fear) almost everywhere…

We spent four days in Jacmel during Carnival season, then another two days outside of Jacmel at area beaches.

Transport to Jacmel

Our driver from Eucalyptus Guesthouse in PAP transported us to the bus station for vans and taptaps heading to the south (the station is called Portail Leogane). The cost was US$27.50 for the ride across town to the bus, and our driver literally dropped us off door to door. You could take a moto for quite a bit less; but this station is very, very busy with cars and…
