A beautiful little budget choice - rooms are OK, with parquetry floors and firm beds. Kitchen access and a sunny courtyard are other bonuses. Staff offer reduced rates for weekly or monthly stays, with or without kitchen use.
This is Xela's original backpackers hostel, and there's no doubt you'll be able to catch up with some other travellers and swap tales here. The kitchen is well-appointed and clean, with free drinking water. The courtyard area has plenty of sofas lying around where Spanish students tend to congregate, hunkered over text books. There's also a six-seater dining table in the kitchen area (just in case you were thinking of entertaining in a formal fashion). The dorms are more spacious than most, with only six beds per room.

Hostel Don Diego offers homely stay just 3 blocks from the main square of Xela. It lies a stones throw away from all the necessary amenities as well as its own comprehensive tour agency, Adrenalina Tours. The hostel has a number of cosy rooms set around a tiled courtyard area with ample tables and chairs, ideal for studying or socialising. You will also find sofas and arm chairs for relaxing after a long day exploring the local area.Owner, Patrick Vercoutere, took over the place in 2009 and is always looking to improve the already popular hostel. Local staff run the hostel day to day and are all way around to attend to the guests. There is a host of information about the city and surrounding area including guide books, maps and of course plenty about tours and activities offered by the in-house agency and sister company of Adrenalina Tours, Caminando Guatemala.There are dorm beds available from 45 Quetzals while beds in triple or double rooms are charged at 50Q. There are single rooms for 55Q to 70Q.
