On Tuesday the 16th of September 2014 my boyfriend and I, along with 8 other tourists, our driver and guide were kidnapped, robbed, tied up, indecently assaulted and raped in Guatemala.
My boyfriend and I are finishing a year long holiday which took us backpacking overland from Singapore to London and then to Central America.
I always keep myself up to date with travel warnings and the best routes to take. Shuttles in Central America have felt convenient, reliable and safe. I even read in…
I studied for 5 months in Xela about a dozen years ago....exclusively at Celas Maya. My wife, coincidentally, was a foreign exchange student there a number of years earlier. We've both been back since but not for about 6 or 7 years. Is Xela still really nice, friendly, safe, fun, etc?
How is the situation at the schools? Are they busy and doing well? We would be most interested in hearing from people who either are there or have been there recently. Thank you!!
I was in Guatemala last year and traveled from Antigua to Chichi/Huehue/Todos Santos Cuchumatan and then on to San Cristobal and Mexico City. I'd like to go back and really want to re-visit Todos Santos but then head north and east. I'm interested in Jacaltenango and towns along the road to Play Grande. I plan to meet friends in Tikal and then on to Belize.
So I'm wondering if anyone has taken this route and can give me information on towns or sites worth visiting. I also would like any…
I am headed to Guatemala next week and upon arrival at the airport I am hoping to hop a bus from GC to Flores. Does anyone have recommendations on the preferred line? Linea Dorada, Fuentes Del Norte, Autobus del Norte?
Also, since I will be taking a taxi from the airport, I want to head to the right place, do these buses still deport from their offices (i.e. FDN on 17 Calle) or do I need to go to the main bus terminal now?
I'm looking for a house for rent for 2 nights in November for 6 adults and 2 kids (perhaps 4). Price range between $100 to $200 per night. If you know a place or a website please let me know.
I visited Guatemala during June July this summer here is a report from the days at Lake Atitlán and Chichicastenango.
A shuttle bus picked me up at Casa Cristina in Antigua for one and a half hour journey to Panajachel. We traveled north on the main high way up into the Guatemalan highlands. After one hour Sololá appeared on basin rim of the lake Atitlán. It was a foggy rainy day, so no view of the word famous lake at this time. Sololá is a heavily populated town with a severe traffic jam.…
1) Schedule: I'm flexible from Dec 25 through the end of Jan.
Is post-NY wiser bcs of Chris-NY peak?
If so, when do the local school-family holidays end?
2) I'd like to visit the Xela-Zunil-SF area.
Is it possible to rent a car in Antigua and return in Pana?
In any case, wld appreciate recommendations for rental agencies.
3) After this area, is it worth it to drive north to Nebaj?
4) Tikal: I understand it's recommended to stay a night for a sunset-sunrise experience (which can be…
I'm arriving at 10:27 am at GUA on an American Airlines flight. Can I make the 11 am shuttle to Antigua...There are probably others on the flight also taking the shuttle...will they hold the shuttle if the plane is late or will I have time to get out of the airport (carry on bag only)
I'm Didi, heading to my first long trip in Central/South America in the beginning of November. After a spell in Oaxaca, Mexico, I'm heading over to San Pedro near Lake Atitlan on November 4th - flying into Guatemala City, riding to Antigua, then Panajachel, then a boat to San Pedro. I'm looking for a travel buddy between any one of these stops in Guatemala, to keep an eye on each other... If you are too, around the 4th-5th, talk to me!
