Hello fellow travelers,

I am traveling to Guatemala in a couple weeks from the United States. My flight is scheduled to arrive in Guatemala City at 7pm. I would like to take an overnight bus that night to Flores. I understand there are a couple different options in terms of bus companies and price points (luxury, first-class, etc). My main question is what is the safest way for me to get from the airport to one of the bus stations? I will be traveling alone and the prospect of taking a random…

All,

I'm in the early stages of planning a trip to Guatemala and El Salvador. The goal is to get from Antigua to Juayua along the Ruta de las Flores. I see there are shuttles to get from Antigua to San Salvador or El Tunco area -- which would be relatively convenient (and expensive) and then would require backtracking through Sonsonate to Juayua. A more "direct" route looks to go right to the border from Antigua and then to Ahuachapan and then to Juayua. I've seen some accounts online of…

We have started our month long trip with our three kids, currently in Antigua. We fit in the back of a tuk-tuk with the day-pack and the stroller so that's the first good news.

I can't find anywhere (googled for an hour) how pricing works for kids/babies in shuttles or chicken buses. I know prices are per person, but at what age do kids also have to pay? Only when they use a seat or a specific age?

My question applies for "door to door" shuttles as well as public chicken buses if we ever have…

Ok, so here's the news; I contacted Marlon Díaz who is a wonderful guide and trust this to be the current information. He responded in CAPS to make his answers stand out from my questions.

In short, you can buy your tickets at the main park gate; the old ticket office has been replaced by the Banrural 'branch' and is open 6am to 6pm. You can no longer purchase any sort of ticket at the entrance to the Maya site near the hotels which means you need to decide in advance if you want a sunset or…

Hello everyone,
I have the last-minute opportunity to get to Guatemala for Semana Santa in a few weeks. I would love to hear any thoughts this wise group has. We've done quite a bit of reading, including here, and we've made several (last-minute!) tentative reservations. Because of the holiday week, it seems we need to book most things in advance, so I'm grateful for any words of wisdom on logistics or otherwise. Our budget is mid-range (i.e., we'd like to keep private shuttles to none/minimum…

Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable English speaking guide in Lake Atitlan? We are a couple interested in a day trip to learn about local Mayan culture and history and we're open to unique suggestions as to what to do, for example Mayan fire ceremonies, etc.

We do not have telephone access only email/wifi.
We are staying in San Marcos now and leave on Saturday for Guatemala City.
Gracias!
