I get into Zona 10 on Thursday 26th of May from El Salvador. My bus drops me at the Holiday Inn. I'm flying the next afternoon at 2pm. Could someone recommend a hotel in this area, reasonable price and just clean, I'd like to be close to a few restaurants and bars as it's my last night in Guatemala and I will get a taxi to the airport the next morning. I don't need to be staying out at the airport so I don't need recommendations of places to stay out there no matter how good. Thanks
So I'm leaving for Guatemala tonight where I will stay for about 6 weeks or more. From then I move on to Panama for a month to do some work.
I am curious about data cellphone packages.
Last time I was in Guatemala I purchase a SIM and a data package from Claro which worked perfectly for what I needed. But, this time I am going to need to for a lot longer, and will also need to for my transfer over to Panama and my time in Panama.
Does Claro's service extend to Panama? And will the…
Could anybody confirm for me whether the major cell carriers in Guatemala restrict tethering (using the device to connect a computer to the Internet) on their prepaid data plans?
I couldn't find anything online suggesting a restriction, so I'm assuming it's probably allowed. But if anybody has definite information, I would be grateful.
So I've been planning to go to Guatemala in the nearish future (around end of june or so). I can't seem to get enough information on the recent volcanic activity. Volcan de Fuego near Antigua and another near Xela have been observed to have very recent (as in yesterday) explosive activity, with an evacuation of one school near Antigua. Could yall supply more information on this?? I was very much looking forward to going, but I don't want to be another person in the way that needs to be…

Study Spanish in Antigua and traveling around the country.
This forum was very useful in the process of finding the right place to study Spanish and helping me to decide which school to choose. I decided to go first to Antigua and visit the three schools that I was interested in after my research on the web. I wanted to study Spanish and travel around the country. One of the schools offered a course of study for 5 hours per day for 4 days. Normally, a prospective student might choose to study 4…
I'm in San Pedro at the moment attending Spanish school. I'll be leaving San Pedro next Sat 21st of May and I'd like to spend a few days at a beach before returning home on Fri 27th (at 17:00) from Guatemala City. Would people recommend El Paradon or Montericco. I just want to chill out relax, get some sun bathing in, some good food and read my book. Thanks again for all the help on here.
Hello all you lovely fellow travel enthusiasts,
I'm planning a 30 day trip around Mexico, Belize and maybe Guatemala. I like culture, art galleries, architecture, museums, pretty cobbled streets, beaches, beaches and diving. I don't like over touristy loud in your face resorts.
Here is what I have so far.
Day 1- arrive Cancun airport at 19:00 and take the ferry to Isla mujeres. Stay four nights.
Day 5 - bus to Merida. Stay here three nights with a possible day trip somewhere, thoughts?
I know this topic has popped up before, but was hoping I could get some advise on my specific itinerary. My cousin and I (both females age 25 + 28), are traveling to Guatemala in a few months. I have traveled to Peru and Chile, and speak a bit of Spanish and feel relatively confident about getting around. We know the common sense rules.. don't wear jewelry, don't flash your phone or wallet around, don't have a purse, be careful drinking and being out at night, don't look lost…
I will need to make my way from Quetzaltenango (Xela) to Palenque. Im shooting to take an overnight bus so that I dont waste good daylight hours, but am not sure any exist along that route. Are there any overnight buses from Xela or any other surrounding city (perhaps Huehuetenango or even the border city of Cuauhtemoc) to Palenque or even Ocosingo? As a backpacker I am more than happy to take chicken buses as well.
Appreciate the recs!
