Getting around by air

Guatemala City's Aeropuerto Internacional La Aurora is the country's major airport. All international flights to Guatemala City land and take off here. The arrivals hall boasts a sometimes-working ATM, sometimes-attended tourist information booth and currency-exchange desks. Travelers have complained about the rates given at the exchange booth inside arrivals and instead recommend the Banrural bank in the departures hall. There is also a more reliable ATM in the departures hall, helpfully hidden behind the stairs leading up to the mezzanine.

At the time of writing, the country's only scheduled domestic flights were between Guatemala City and Flores with Avianca, leaving Guatemala City at 6am and 6:40pm, and TAG, which departs at 6:30am and 5:15pm. Domestic flights may leave from the domestic terminal, a 15-minute cab ride from the international terminal.

Tickets to Flores cost around Q910/1825 one-way/round-trip with Avianca and Q1065/1825 with TAG, but some travel agents, especially in Antigua, offer large discounts on these prices.

Fourteen international airlines also serve Guatemala, flying direct from North, Central and South America and Europe.
