We're doing a 3 week trip in November, flying into G'mala City and home from Cancun. Couple, around 40, done plenty of backpacking in the past. She is fluent in Spanish. I get by.
Interests - I really love jungle trekking and really fancy the full 6 day El Mirador trek. She loves beaches!
Happy to do long bus journeys, but will pay more to do them as nicely as possible, and can't be bothered with overnight journeys any more (seen it, done it, value sleep).
Would really value feedback on…
We (couple, 40 & 60) are planning 40 days in CA next April/May.
We don't feel the need to see as much as possible in the shortest amount of time- we are on holiday and like to stop and smell the roses, favouring quality experiences over quantity. We like culture, scenery, art and handicrafts, good coffee and food. We don't surf, dive or party.
Budget is not the most critical thing we can spend were we need to and save when we can.
While we appreciate the merit of "winging it" we generally…
Flight arrives 6:30 AM from LAX. I might be arriving Sunday morning. Would my travel options be the same. I want to stay at Hotel Utz Jay and they are booked midweek so I am shifting travel plans from Guate/Antigua/Panajachel to Panajachel first.
I'm planning a trip to Mexico and Guatemala this Dec/Jan. Originally I was planning to avoid the crowds around Christmas/New Year's but now I'm wondering whether there are any particular places in Mexico or Guatemala I should check out for cool cultural festivities. Right now I'm leaning towards Christmas in Antigua and New Year's around Lake Atitlan. Thanks!
I am just wondering how safe it is for a solo female traveler to use tuks tuks in Guatemala? In particular, the areas of Antigua, villages around Lake Atitlan and Flores.
Have there been any recent incidents that you know about where females have been robbed by tuk tuk drivers?
Any advice would be appreciated!
this will be my first trip to Central America. I was looking at flights from europe and the cheapest I found was through Madrid to Cancun. Flying to Guatemala City was a 100euros more. Does anyone know if it's doable to travel by public transport from Cancun to the border and how long it will approximately take. Or will I be better off flying to Guatemala instead? As I will also be visiting Costa Rica, is it ok to bus it from Guatemala down to Costa Rica. What will lodging, food…
I'm planning to travel to Guatemala around Christmas/New Year's. I was wondering if Guatemala is particularly busy at this time of year and if there are any areas I should avoid due to crowds.
I was also wondering how the Lake Atitlan area will be. Will it be particularly festive? Are there any cool areas/events worth checking out?
I'm okay with some crowds. Just don't want it to be super busy!
Enjoy the giant kite flying, eat tamales, go souvenir shopping, take pictures and walk the pebbled streets of the very lovely city.
