Lonely Planet review

A few steps from the bus station, the Landívar has rooms set well back from the road, so remain quiet despite what's going on outside. This intimate little place combines the best of all three worlds - modern comforts, colonial styles and indigenous flavours.

The rooms are a decent size - smaller downstairs, and larger and airier upstairs. There are plenty of fabrics and local carvings around the place, but not so many that it seems overdone. They've left the patio open-roofed, so both floors get good ventilation, and the downstairs courtyard area with its tinkling central fountain has a great atmosphere. Up on the second floor there are even better common areas, with classic Antigua wooden sofas and the inevitable hammock chairs. Out the front there's a garden terrace - a great place to be when the sun goes down over the mountains.
