I read this article yesterday about a young woman who was killed after the tourist shuttle bus she was on, crashed.
I am planning a trip to Guatemala for later this year and was wondering if anyone can comment on the safety of tourist shuttles throughout the country? I know that road accidents happen often in Guatemala and that its often because of poorly maintained vehicles and reckless drivers.
When choosing which tourist shuttle company to purchase tickets from, are there any that you have…
So...my travel plans this year don't include Guatemala :(
However to keep me hopeful and happy Guate is in my plans for next year.
I have been to the following places(grouped together) in my 5 trips to Guate: Tikal and Flores.
Antigua to study Spanish at Antiguena and GC.
Chichi, Pana, Santiago Atitlan, San Pedro, San Juan, Santa Cruz and San Antonio Palopo.
Coban, Lanquin, and Semuc.
So...what have I missed?? Suggestions, please. Friends have lived in Xela and loved it. Could I study…
Just a quick question - I've got around 10 days in Guatemala. I will be continuing onto Mexico (San Cristobal).
My initial itinerary was:
3 days - Flores/Tikal - fly to GUA
3 days - Antigua
3 days - Atitlan
A fair few people have told me that I'm being silly by skipping Semuc Champey. However, I'm thinking that's its a bit crazy to try and fit it all in:
2 days - Flores Tikal
1 day - Flores to Semuc
1 day Semuc
1 day Semuc to Antigua
2 days Antigua
2 days- Atitlan
For the experts -…
I want to explore Guatemala City for a couple of days. (Yes, I know that opinions vary.) I will probably be arriving at the Transportes Álamo terminal at12 Avenida A, 0-65 zona 7. Any suggestions for either a safe, economical hotel near there or for safe, economical transportation to Zona 1, where I understand most budget hotels are located?
Thanks for any guidance.
Heading to Guatemala & Belize later on in the year and we're two young adults in pretty good shape - looking for a nice volcano trek. Ideally we'd do the overnight trek that sleeps on the volcano to watch Fuego erupt but realistically it's going to be a one day up and down job we will do.
What volcano would people recommend for us? It doesn't matter if it's a difficult trek, it just needs to be safe, easily reached from Antigua or Lake Atitlan and possible to see a good view…
I have brought my dog into Guatemala from Nicaragua and from the states and will be returning to Guatemala from the states once again in August...the only issue has been getting her through customs. Does anyone know of a reliable "fixer" who I can contract to facilitate this process?
Hello fellow Guatemala travelers!
I am in the planning stages for my first Guatemala trip in November for 2.5 weeks.
For those who have been to Guatemala previously, I am wondering if you would be able to offer your advice and critiques of my rough itinerary below. My travel style is budget-friendly backpacker and my interests include local culture, Mayan ruins, colonial architecture, local markets, street art, nature, and having authentic experiences and adventures.
I would love to hear your…
We are flying into Guatemala in late August for 6 days only. Looking for any suggestions on where to go and where to stay. Will be surfing down the coast of Mexico, so looking to mix it up with a bit of culture and history. Don't speak much Spanish, but happy to go anywhere. Any suggestions on an itinerary would be appreciated.
I'm planning on traveling from Lake Atitlan to San Cristobal de las Casas (Mexico).
I understand this is a full days travel - is there any where interesting along the way I might break up the trip?
Does anyone know if busses/shuttles run overnight on this route?
I understand that Guatemala is a country that requires proof of onward travel. My plan is to fly to Guatemala City, continue to Honduras and depart from San Pedro Sula. Since both countries are CA-4, I am thinking the ticket from SPS will be sufficient as proof of onward travel (for both the airlines and the Guatemalan authorities). I have done a lot of Googling on this but no one addresses if being CA-4 countries means the onward bound ticket does not have to be from Guatemala.
