I'm considering a move to Guadeloupe with my French husband. I have many years experience teaching English in Asia, a BA from a US university, but no TEFL.
I'm writing to ask if anyone can comment on whether there's a market in Guadeloupe for ESL teachers or private tutors. I see that there's a program for American assistants in schools, but unfortunately I'm older than 30, so it isn't possible for me.
I'm off back to the Caribbean shortly. I'm not into beaches and all of that. As a general rule, I prefer to keep away from touristy stuff and just do my own thing. I've been to quite a few Caribbean islands already, and have always had my most enjoyable times just staying away from the tourist hotels. I've stayed in a variety of places, from decks on sailboats, to little rooms in all sorts of places and a bit of couchsurfing/similar. I don't care about having access to a…
Has anyone been to Terre-de-Haut which is only 15 km offshore? It's supposed to be the poor man's St. Barts. Supposed to be laid-back and have great beaches, French Creole culture and architecture. The people are descended from Briton fishermen.
I'm planning a trip to Guadeloupe The first two weeks of juin 2014.
The plan is to go to a language school for learning french.
Is there someone who had experience with this?
Which is a good school ?
And what can i do after The lessons ?
Hey, I'm wondering what my travel options are for travelling from Guadeloupe to Antigua? What's the safest way? the fastest way? the cheapest way? Any recommendations?
Anyone who can help?
I was wondering if anyone knows about any budget accommodation in Guadeloupe. Lonely Planet's definition of the word "budget" seems to differ from mine.
I'm not into beach resorts, boutique type guest houses and that sort of thing. I know from previous visits to the Caribbean that there are almost always genuinely budget prices places. They probably don't have any sort of web presence, but are normally known to the locals. They might have e-mail addresses.
I'm also probably going…
We will be traveling to Guadeloupe on Good Friday and leaving on Easter Monday. We are wondering if anything will be opened such as places to eat, supermarkets etc. We are wondering if we need to bring groceries with us.
Also any recommendation on the best places to stay. We like hiking, relaxing on the beach and eating.
And any recommendation on car rental places too? Good rates and near the ferry.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
