    Travel tip for great photographs

While traveling through Europe, I learned that when you want somebody to take your picture you should always find somebody with an SLR camera. They usually know what they are doing.

I had a few people hold my camera upside down and ask me where the button was haha I also had two people that took the picture of just me, completely disregarding the Notre Dame behind me.

Travel better and longer in low season.

If you plan to go to places like New York, a safari in Africa, Florence, Italy or mainly anywhere in the world the best way to do it is in low season. Prices are mucho lower, discounts are better, you can take a longer period of vacation and spend the same amount of money .

The best thing is everyone is working so you have great places like Xcaret, Playa del Carem all for yourself. Enjoy!

    South America tips

Would be great to have some tips for South America. Any amazing places you should stay, hidden secrets, top tips or recommendations? Would love to hear about them as I'm off to Brazil and Argentina for New Year. Thank you.

deborahmathias I live in Rio (Brazil) and I have some tips for you (: If you come to Rio and want to make a quick and delicious meal, go to "Rei do Mate". They have amazing things to eat and drinks that you'll love to have again. Ask for "Mate com Leite condensado" (with condensed milk) *-*

More places you'll love to eat:
      - Rei da Empada / Empada Carioca: They have 'empadinha', you'll love it *-* Well, for me it's the best thing in the hole world (after pizza of course!)
      - Mundo Verde: If you're vegetarian, you'll love Mundo Verde, because everything is made for vegetarians and it's delicious! They sell things fo house too, incenses, etc. There's a lot of Mundo Verde's in Copacabana!
      - If you want to eat well and cheap, you should look for "self service' places. You choose what you want to eat, the quantity and stuff.. and you don't pay tons of money! (:

Nova Scotia, Canada (Blue Nose Replica) You can take a lobster home from a shop inside the Halifax airport for ONLY $10- $12. I had the best clam chowder in Nova Scotia in the restaurant called "Salty's" in downtown Halifax.

7 natural wonders of the world

7 natural wonders of the world I stayed on the longest stretch of beach on Lake Cocibolca - on the largest island in a fresh water lake - Ometepe Island, Nicaragua is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. With 2 volcanos, 1 recently reactivated, 4,000 year old petroglyhs, tropical rainforests, waterfalls, mineral springs, fresh water sharks (rarely seen) indigenous farming community and more. It is an amazing place and we found the best place to stay right on beach, near all the tourist activities too and really hospitable and clean. They cooked local dishes, plus veggie quiche and Thai chicken curry. We had fresh yogurt, whole wheat bread and pizza too! The property has a small casita to rent as well and all are uniquely designed and furnished. There are just a few rooms so you need to call and make a reservation but they are extra helpful with info and transport too. The Linda Guest House was sooo economical at US$30 for a double with hot water showers, TV/DVD and kitchen...

Is is best to book in advance or last minute - discuss!

I'd always recommend booking your scheduled airline flights as way in advance as possible - the closer to the travel date the more expensive they tend to be.

If it is a "package holiday" that you are after then as long as you're not completely set on a particular hotel/resort, you'll normally save yourself a lot of money by booking last minute.

    • Default-avatar-mini

earthcircler This is usually true, but there are always exceptions to the rule. During shoulder seasons airlines often substantially drop rates when they need butts in seats. Also, some airlines open up award seats close to departure dates, giving you a better crack at burning your frequent flyer miles for the trip.

dphrph I try to book as far ahead as I can (depending on the destination..foreign vs. domestic etc). If I'm going to another country then I tend to use the time after I've booked to research and put my trip together.

However, I've also flown at the last minute on a really good fare domestically (I live in the USA) and had a good time seeing a city that I'd not been too before. So both methods have their benefits and drawbacks.
