    KL - Beyond Airport

    I had 6 hours in KL and had time toget a taxi to the Tallest building and go up and get back to the airport in time.

    LA - Beyond The Airport

    I had a 24 hour stop over in LA on my way from London to Auckland. Grabbed a taxi into Santa Monica (late evening), had a shower and much needed sleep. Got up early the following morning, walked along Santa Monica beach... window shopped along Third Street Boulevard and relaxed in the sunshine in various cafes and on the beach front. Taxi back to LAX early evening. Not the most original way to spend a day, but pleasant nonetheless! I loved being called Ma'am.

    Singapore - Changi Airport - 6hrs - afternoon-night

    I had 6hrs in Singapore on my way to Paris. I can't remember why, but my bags were still in transit to Paris and I was able to just clear customs and walk out into the country with a day pack. I made a deal with a taxi driver to drop me at The Long Bar at Raffles Hotel and pick me up a few hrs later from the same spot...you have to go to The Long Bar and have a Singapore Sling at the place that it was invented. Great drink. Then I walked all the way to Lau Pa Sat, a food market...also a pretty cool place...headed back to Raffles, was picked up by the taxi driver, went back to the hotel to have a refreshing shower (Singapore is hot and humid) and get ready to get on the next flight. chrisboden If you have 6 hours you could probably pop out to the Singapore zoo. They do a great night safari if you have an evening to kill.

    Help me categorize stop overs before we start contributing...

    this is what i was thinking...I want to make sure we categorize (maybe in the title of the post?) the stop over type...so we can quickly understand what we are talking about
    stop-overs should be split in two sections to start with:
    * Airport only: 1-4 hrs
    * Beyond the Airport: 4-24hrs
    then we need to find a way to categorize further:
    * Airport name and city
    * morning/afternoon/night so we know what time of the day the stop over is which makes a huge difference in some places...
    Then there are other considerations we need to keep in mind
    * kids/no kids?
    * do you carry on luggage only? do you have to clear your bags to get our of the airport?
    Things to do:
    * Food
    * mode of transport (taxi, train, rented car)
    * views you can't miss (get on a cab and drive to x point in the city)
    * you can't miss...
    I'll try my first one and see how we go...
