Going to be in Spain this summer, mainly in Barcelona, so any news on great music venues and performances would be great! Thanks.

suzywatusi Hi Amalita
I'm going to Barcelona soon too! The venue I'm familiar with is Sala Apolo in Poble Sec - from memory, there are two main rooms within it. They have great live bands and themed nights too. Their website is:
www.sala-apolo.com
Have fun!

If people love music, and are visiting the UK, best place to visit in London is Camden, especially the markets!
Camden is full of live music venues with such a diverse range of music there every night!
& the market, can get some good music buys there!
heard this on the grapevine too....
"Famous for its vibrancy, its cultural diversity and for its music, Stables Market is unique amongst its peers. Steeped in history and individuality, totally cosmopolitan and eclectic, there is now an album series that captures the Sound of Camden and the vibe therein perfectly.
Owner Bebo Kobo and entrepreneur Itay Sachish have joined forces with music producer Roy Sela to deliver a series of albums that captivate the unique magical vibe that is Stables Market. The albums cover the electronic, classic and revolutionary sounds of bands such as U2, The Pixies, The Rolling Stones and more, tracks that are synonymous with the Sound of Camden.
Featuring Mutya Buena’s amazing vocals ...

hmmmm... worst live gig? Hmmmm... i went and saw the Brian Jonestown Massacre which started off good but they seemed to lose it after a while taking 10 minute breaks every 2nd song and they werent even talking with the crowd during that time. That might be ok if you are in a pub and everyone is chilling out, but when you've paid $50 or so for the gig at a proper venue then noone is interested in watching you just sit round smoking cigarettes.
My Question! Best MUSIC FESTIVAL EVER? My answer: SZIGET in Hungary. If you've been, please agree with me. It will make me happy :)

suzywatusi I've heard many stories about the Brian Jonestown Massacre's..umm...erratic live performances! Sounds like you caught 'em on a bad night, to put it mildly... Hungary sounds like an exotic place for a music festival! My best music festival ever would be PRIMITIVE in Rotterdam, although this year I'm off to Madrid to check out the GO SINNER GO festival in June... Yowzah!

In an effort to reanimate this very dead group, I thought I'd pose the following question, something that any self-respecting music-lover would have an opinion about...
**What's the worst live gig you've ever seen, why was it so bad, and where was it????**
I've seen a fair bit of crapola in my time but the band that springs to mind faster than any other is REM. Saw 'em at the Perth Concert Hall in 1989 and the soul-sapping sense of lethargy they inspired in me remains crystal clear in my memory. Talk about over-rated: that band is like piped supermarket muzak. Didn't help that the concert was seated - sitting during a gig doesn't help anybody's cause....

Hey all you North American groovers, or those of you heading to the US in March-April...have I got good news for you! None other than the rock'n'rolling, groovin', soulin' KING KHAN & THE SHRINES are going to be touring the country, visiting cities as diverse as Atlanta, Chattanooga (as you do), Memphis, Austin, Boise (last time I heard Boise mentioned was in "Pink Flamingos" FFS!) and San Francisco. Check out their MySpace page for dates: http://www.myspace.com/kingkhantheshrines Easily the best live band I've seen this year so far - they put on a mind-blowing show, complete with screaming, shouting, sweating, showing off and absolutely masterful musicianship. Your life will be vastly improved for seeing them in action, folks.

Why oh why isn't Melbourne in Europe? If it was, I'd be traipsing from Berlin (tomorrow night, as a matter of fact) to Malmo to Stockholm to Helsinki all the way through to Toulouse, Paris and Madrid in pursuit of the BEST BAND EVER - the Sonics! Yes, they've featured in this group before, but as the good man says: too much Sonics is never enough...and this European tour is the perfect opportunity for a right royal Sonics overdose. Check their Myspace page for dates: http://www.myspace.com/thesonicsboom

Ride the wild surf...in Madrid! OK, so Madrid's not exactly Hawaii, and I've seen more tidal action in my bath tub, but since when did that ever stop anyone? Spain's got a healthy surf music scene, and this weekend, the SURFORAMA FESTIVAL celebrates the sound of reverb-drenched guitars and thundering drums in all their tsunami-like glory! The action takes place at super-cool venue Gruta 77, and features US band Slacktone, UK legends the Rapiers, and loads of Spain's finest. Potential highlight? A tribute to the man with the golden guitar, Dick Dale, by Las Coronas' Fernando Pardo and the always-entertaining Imperial Surfers. Like wow, wipeout! http://www.festivalsurforama.es/index.html

More rockin' good times in Barcelona! ELS TRONS is a totally spun-out group from Barcelona that plays old 60s garage/psych classics - but these guys aren't just any old cover band. Their music is as authentic-sounding as it comes, and....they sing the lyrics in Catalan! With amazing results. I was screaming with amazement when I first heard them. Anyway, they're playing TONIGHT (sorry about the late notice) and on 19 September too. Check out their MySpace for details and to hear their indescribably cool music: http://www.myspace.com/elstrons

Japanese garage pop legends in Melbourne For the first time in over 10 years, legendary all-chick Japanese band Shonen Knife hit Australian shores to rock our worlds with their girly garage pop. They're playing at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on Sept 24. http://www.cornerhotel.com/ While I'm more of a 5.6.7.8s fan myself, I saw Shonen Knife at the Big Day Out in 1997, and they really are a cool live act - with a way tougher sound than their records suggest. And so adorable!

faith restored
I've just been put onto this sweet little band

All I can say is get some now & avoid the rush!

suzywatusi Oh wow, thanks for the tip - they really are "muito legal mesmo" like the all Youtube comments say. Do they have an album out? I want! Not only catchy as hell, but great for practising Portuguese...

chechito330 i really like it pretty fun..

suzywatusi Just read that Garotas Suecas will be in Melbourne as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival - Oct 24. Unfortunately, I can't go as my own band has a gig...
