humbucker roosterboy - do you mean one 3 year old and a 1 year old or a thirteen year old and an eleven year old?
humbucker For little kids and toddlers magnets are good. They can try the magnet on all the surfaces looking for metal. Doesn't get more portable than that. also good on trains buses and in hotel rooms.
rooosterboy Sorry, that's a 3 year old and a 1 year old.. I'll try and remember the magnet thing, cheers
nthorpe Gin and Tonic for the 1 year old, and something stronger for the toddler!
chrisboden A portable DVD player with their favourite TV show is an amazing pacifier - something like this for a couple of hundred bucks will do the trick http://tinyurl.com/c89vsa
rooosterboy Wow, a portable DVD player sounds like the go, are the batteries an issue for the flight time, do most airlines have powerpoints?
evanb8 My dear mum said she used to give me Phenergan when my uncle was going to babysit me. Made me all placid and happy apparently...
I'm sure it's had no long term effects...!
vivekw Coloring books and puzzles were definitely the go for me as a three-year-old!
humbucker We may or may not have adopted the phenergan strategy on a 26 hour trek with an 11 month old and a 2.5 year old. I'm not prepared to say in this public forum. My wife and I were very relaxed for the whole trip though ;-)
katie_f I met a lady who takes a small bottle of bubble liquid (like the ones used at weddings) to entertain kids who sit near her if they get annoying. It's a great tactic in restaurants as well. A pack of cards is handy. I've also found photographs of people you know particularly good for killing some time with the 1-2 yr olds.
lcfranks Look for buddies on the flight - we made friends with another 2 year old on recent flight US to UK and they took turns playing at each others' seats so we had a little break!
overit2 do lots of walks arround the in the flight the kids love it and you meet lots of other kids that way as well.
