Hi all my husband and I are heading to India and Nepal for a 4 month trip and are starting the adventure in Kerala (Cochin>Alleppey>Munnar>Madurai>....). We land in Mumbai on Dec 30 (21:00) and plan to fly to Cochin the very next morning. Any recommendation of where we can stay for the night? We're looking for as close to budget as possible while staying within reasonable cleaniness. Are there decent options nearby the airport or do we have to head into town? Thanks in advance!

michalupo Haha yeah. We're looking at a very tentative plan of Mumbai>Cochin>Munnar>Madurai>Maybe Goa if we need a break>Hampi and then to Rajastan and Varanasi on the way to Nepal. Obviously it gets looser as we go, who knows if we'll stick with the plan but like to come with something in mind. A lot of my israeli friends have gone so I heard lots but the consensus seems to be that you can't imagine it until you're there. Basically expect the unexpected and you'll love it.

Do avoid eating food on the street in India. Especially be careful with the drinking water. Most people who travel to India especially if travelling for long can get a bout of Diarreha. The cause is usually ameoba infections. The best treatment is a Drug called Ciplox-TZ that is manufactured by a company called Cipla. It is a combination of Ciprofloxacin 500mg plus Tinidazole 600mg. There are other manufacturers too. This drug must be taken twice a day for 5 to 7 days. The diarreha will stop within a day or two but continue for atleast 5 days if not more. Usually if you stop in between chances are of a recurrence.
Most medicines in India are much cheaper upto 10 times less than Europe or the US. Try to buy medicines from a large store in Big cities. Check on the name of the Manufacturer. In some cases in small towns one may buy duplicate medicine. Generally speaking the quality of medicines in India is excellent. Most travellers who complain usually do not go to good Doctors and en...
