Things I Love About Discover
Okay it's not Thailand, but I'm going to Vietnam in two weeks and I would love to take a Discover guide with me! I worked on the series development team as an editorial rep and the number of debates, discussions, decisions and umming and ahhing that went on as we tried to make this series the best it could be almost left me never wanting to see a Discover guide again. Yet now the manuscripts have arrived in house the excitement has been reignited and I'm back on the Discover bandwagon ! Yet it's as I plan my own trip that I'm realising all over again how amazing these books are for getting inspired about the destination and planning your trip, as well as being practical when you're on the road. For me, the best features of this series are the photos – getting a glimpse of the destination before you go just adds to the excitement when planning your trip. The local's highlights are another massive drawcard for me. Our authors are fantastic and will ferret...

It's a tough job...
Some things I discovered while editing Discover Thailand yesterday:
One of the best places in Thailand to go for a sundowner (White Box, Phuket)
One of the best places in Thailand to be a culture vulture (BangkokArt & Culture Centre)
One of the best places in Thailand to ride an elephant (Sangkhlaburi)
And my favourite – the best place to master the art of hammock-hanging in Thailand (Kho Pha-Ngan) -

Lists for your inner travel nerd
I was on the product development team too. I love the lists and practical, planning features! It's like someone sat you down and ran through everything you need to know - when to go, when *not* to go, what I need to book months in advance (so I don't only find out when I'm on the plane), where all the different areas are, what day the best market is on. It means I know all that stuff's taken care of so I can spend more time nosing around sights, deciding where to go for dinner and all the other fun stuff.

developing a new series
I was one of the editorial folk who helped to develop this new series, and it's very exciting to think we'll soon have real, live books ready to be published.
There's a lot of really clever stuff in these stylish books so it's hard to pick what's my favourite - but if I had to choose one thing it would be the highlights chosen by locals. The design is really pretty and the insider tips are fab. -

Behind the Scenes
I'm the coordinating editor on Discover Thailand, and I've got to say, it's looking fabo! Great information, amazing pics - it makes it hard sitting at my desk here in cold Melbourne! I'm inspired to just get up and head on over to Thailand for a bit of diving, some fine eating, and general chilling. But if I do, this fantastic book won't get to the printer...so back to work I go!

Itineraries by Interest or Length of Trip Step-by-step itineraries to the entire country or just the region you are visiting help you to plan the perfect trip.
-

tashiw What's more the itineraries are planned by either the length of time you have or what you are interested in. Prefer to spend your holiday's bumming around on beautiful beaches? Or are you more of a culture vulture or a foodie? Our Discover series makes it really easy for you to plan the perfect trip.

Full Colour Maps for Easy Navigation Our full colour maps make it really easy to navigate your way around
-

alison_l Being part of the product development team meant that I was able to help design the maps in full colour! Might sound like an easy thing to do, having a full pallet of colour with which to work, but it is harder than it seems. It is important to link in with the design elements, and create something that is unique for this special new series.

Lonely Planet is creating an all new full colour guidebook series called Discover. One of the first titles to be launched in the new series will be Discover Thailand. This group will give you a little window into how we create a new series and the people creating it. Come take a look at the story of Discover Thailand!
