Upcoming trip...
Hi guys
I am visiting Thailand in November 09 and we're planning to fly to Bangkok then get the overnight train up to Chiang Mai... the plan is then to do some kind of jungle trek, was wondering if you knew of any good tours you could reccomend to us please? Also if you know of any cool cheap clean accomodation that would be awesome!! Thanks, Charlotte

captain_bob November is an excellent month for Chiang Mai - rainy season finished but still green and refreshingly mild temps. What price range did you have in mind for accommodation? Take a look at http://www.travelfish.org/accommodation/thailand/northern_thailand/chiang_mai/chiang_mai/all Travelfish listings. I recommend the 3Sis in the 1500b range, Lai Thai for about 750b, and CM Blue House and Chiang Mai Bow House both around 300-400b.
sophie23 We just spent two weeks in Chiang Mai, last year we stayed at the Blue House...the fan didn't work, bed bugs and it was noisy. The last two years our place of choice has been Mountain View, inside the moat, across from Chiang Puak Gate. Clean, friendly, cheap, good restaurant, with a roof top terrace, plus if you like street food the best night carts are across the street, most of the locals seem to gather here so you know it is great. All of the sawngtheaws and tuktuks also know of mountain view so its easy to get there from any part of the city. Rooms start at 200 to 250 (prices as of Aug09) ask for the rooms off the street or over looking the garden; not on the street side as those are often noisier.
Have a great trip .....oh and if you need a good dentist go to Grace!
