The Best of the Best

Righto... this will be contentious... what is the worldest best beer? We aren't looking for your local favourite, but the finest example of a malted, hopped beverage you have found. And tell us why!

(And remember - keep it friendly people - there is no way we'll agree!)

    drifting_adam Hi guys,

Just consolidating all the votes into one thread.

mikey6969 said "My vote goes to "Indio" made in the Northern town of Monterrey, Mexico. Made by same company that makes Tacate, Dos XX's , and I believe, Bohemia. Indio is more of an amber than a dark. Great taste."

While vishmiester reckons "Best, so far, is Hoegarden....."

As far as myself... well... I've ironically found my own question to be really hard to answer. Duval (from Belgium) came immediately to mind, as well my old trusty favourite of Guinness, or perhaps one of the many fine American craft brews. I reckon my vote will have to go for a somewhat obscure beer from my native Australia - Knappstein Reserve Lager. A nicely hopped, very crisp and good bodied lager from the Clare valley of South Australia.

    Keep the votes coming in!

drifting_adam Sunny09 voted for Kozel "I spent a week in Prague in January... oh the beers. All of the Czech lagers are wonderful in my opinion and especially next to a blazing fire and sitting on wooden benches. However, I have to give the "King of Beers" award to the dark czech lager Kozel. I have tasted many, many beers from countries all over the world and most of the American microbrews, but I have NEVER had a beer like the dark lager Kozel. No flaws! and the aftertaste is soo clean and lovely its almost a little sweet. If anyone knows where an American can find this in America please tell me. I've been trying dark lagers and stouts from the States, Great Britain, Germany, Mexico, etc. trying to find one that can match Kozel and it just ain't happening. If you go to Prague, head for a pub with the sign of the goat right over the door!!!"

drifting_adam beer is love voted for: Ninkasi Beer from Eugene, OR

Note from Adam:.... although.. to be fair... it's a pretty good bet that beerislove WORKS for Ninkasi Beer. Having said that, it looks like a pretty fair beer and has some interesting stuff to say on their website about the history of beer:

Quote "Ninkasi is named for the Sumerian Goddess of fermentation. The first recorded brewers were the Sumerians, who gave up their nomadic way of life to become agrarian to produce barley to make bread and beer. They were the first to write, have schools, laws and many other firsts including organized beer production."
