I'm looking for some first-hand information about Zambia. We have traveled in Botswana before, and now we are considering a combination of a self-drive and guided walking safari - we have about 16 days, and we are looking at Kafue and South Luangwa parks. Any tips or advice?

World Cup 2010 in Africa!
Hello,
My Friends and I will be in South Africa for the world cup of soccer for three weeks (jun19-july4th) but I plan on going ahead of them to tour the Continent a bit. I've pretty much got everything that i want to see figured out but I just dont know how to go about getting to these places. I dont really want to spend more than a month and $2500 on Safari.
i want to go from the sergenti to zanzibar, then down to lake malawai, then to Victoria Falls and over to Swakmopund then to cape town. I'm thinking at most i'll need is 14 days.
I'm thinking of using the Intercape Mainliner buses for the whole trip but if anyone has any other suggestions or comments on how to go about this trip I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading and happy travels everyone

Looking for travel buddy Botswana/Namibia early 2010
Hey. I am planning a trip to Botswana and Namibia starting most probably late January/early February (but I'm flexible). I'd like to spend a 5-8 weeks exploring, and would be glad for any advice. Am also looking for someone who would like to share my travels. I don't have a drivers license (quite common not to have where I'm from), so if you do it would be great. I'm up for camping, am freeminded and tolerant, and of course adventurous. Hope to hear from you! Chenault

A solo vacation
I am looking to travel solo in Jan or Feb of 2010. What do you recommend. I have always wanted to go to Africa, but the political climate of many of the countries has made me wary. Also, I have not traveled much --this vacation will be 2-3 weeks-- and I am looking for suggestions. Thanks!

sandries Hi! Why don't you try Tanzania? It's one of the gems of Africa and you'll find everything that you imagine to be Africa: Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti with its vast plains and great wildlife, Masai and Bushmen, mountains, bush and semi-desert, white beaches and crystal-clear water, women in traditional clothes,... And it's a stable country! Try www.endallahtours.com. It's a small Tanzanian-owned company and they're just starting. I travelled with them and they're great. No lodges and luxury hotels but the real Africa!

ganeshanandadeva Thank you sandries for replying to my post. I checked out endallahtours, and it looks interesting. Is it possible to travel in Africa as a vegan (no animal products in my diet)?
2 months ago · report -

kc_luka ya you might have some trouble with that as its a meat and animal product orientated culture. they do however eat a meal made purely of ground maizemeal and water pretty much everywhere called unga, sudsa, posho and a number of other things. If you are staying in hotels depending on how fancy you might be able to ask for vegan food. i am kenyan and i can only say that east africa is a beautiful place to travel and an amazing variety of cultural experience!

Exciting volunteer vacation
Hey, I hear about this tour/workshop in Mali coming up in January that sounds fascinating. I am thinking of going, and I want to tell more people about it because I think it is very innovative. It is in the Dogon country, and the group will be building a school. I have been to that region before, and I loved it. It is fairly remote and the culture there is fabulous! Ask, and I will tell you lots about Dogon country.
This workshop is about earthen building as well as Dogon culture. And as far as I can tell, it looks pretty affordable compared to other similar length tours.Read about it at: www.earthenhand.com/workshops.html
If anyone wants to go from the states, maybe we could catch the same plane over there.
peace,
Scot Gregorie

Finally, my trip to Africa!
Hi,
Being a African history major in college, I always dreamed of traveling to Africa. I am finally going to make it happen.
I will be spending three weeks in Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar, with the possibility of also doing Rwanda, although I know three weeks really isn't that long.
Does anyone have advice on safaris or general travel tips on traveling throughout these countries. I very much want to do a safari (as everyone does) and want to find one that is eco-conscious and supportive of the local economy.
I hope I don't sound like a pill. Any advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
Jenna

sandries Hi! Another good one is www.endallahtours.com. They'll take you to a little village near the Serengeti and Ngorongoro and you'll get the chance to stay in a tanzanian family's house and see the real life! They'll take you on safari too and have various projects going on in the village. It's a small starting African-owned company so you'll support the local people. I travelled with them too (and we also help them to build a school)and now I'm helping them to start up their business. You won't regret it!
