LP UPDATE ON TOURIST SAFETY IN GREECE

What’s going on?
Greece owes a lot of money, and may default on a loan from the IMF on Tuesday night. The country’s banks are currently shut, and controls are in place on ATM withdrawals. On 5 July, the country will vote on whether to accept reforms proposed by creditors. A ‘no’ vote might see Greece leave the Euro and start issuing its own currency (probably the drachma) again.
Whatever is decided, Greece’s problems have deep roots: unemployment stands at…

Hi, I was planning on spending the two last weeks of July in Greece (3 days in Athens and around 10 on the islands) and with the news we are a little bit worried. Has anybody any advice to give regarding delays for the ferries or interruptions on the public transportation, etc? How is the ambiance in Athens for tourists since the recent events? Thank you very much,

Hello travellers, my wife and I have a 50ft yacht sailing from Mykonos on the 18th July for one week around the Cyclades, returning to Mykonos on 25th July. We have space for 1-4 additional people, cost would depend on how many but approximately 1000 euros per person. The cost includes a skipper and hostess onboard, all expenses including fuel and mooring. The only extras would be food and drink. We don't have a set route so we will just see what each day brings. About us - we're both around…

IMPIS (Institute for the Study and Monitoring of Santorini Volcano) has sent a letter to the members of the Hotel Association Santorini. They want to draw everyone's attention of the status of Red Beach in Akrotiri:

"We would like to inform you and ask you to inform clients of this situation, and that access to the beach is extremely dangerous due to landslides, to avoid any accident with incalculable consequences for the island"

They ask the members of the Hotel Association to contact the…

We have a few days to jump around a bit and it seems a car would be most convenient. We have driven all over the world, but I know Greece does not have the best record for road safety... having said that I have driven several times in Thailand and Malaysia and never had any issues! Can anyone who has driven in Greece give some input? We would have to enter Athens .. if only to drop off the car!

October

Hi,

I'm looking into a trip between end of September and October to visit the Greek Islands. I heard the temperature is nice then - but it may not be hot enough to swim in the water?

Any suggestions on where to go/stay in Greece for those periods of time would be helpful.

Is 2 weeks (or 2 1/2 weeks) long enough to visit the greek islands, etc?

Thanks,
Lisa

Hello all,

My husband and I (late 20s) will be visiting Greece in September. Hoping you could help me out with two questions.

1) We are hoping to do a sailing trip around some of the Greek Islands for a few days. We are not normally tour group types but we have next to zero sailing experience so would prefer to join a tour boat of some kind. Most trips I've come across, though, are for a week or more. We're only after something for 3 or 4 nights. Does anyone know of any companies that do trips…

I use quite large amounts of olive oil (for cooking)and am thinking of buying some online and thought I'd order some Greek olive oil and perhaps help some small producer in a , yes, very small way. Does anyone know of any website that would aid me to do this without the money going to some middle man? I know that the banks are closed and I presume all transfers are being blocked but maybe someone has some suggestions as to where I should go? Thanks :)
