  9. Traditional Grecian statues at Achilleion. In 1861 the Empress Elizabeth of Austria built Achilleion on the Island of Corfu. The 'sensitive' empress built it as a solace for her soul. The palace is in the purest of Greek styles and is named after a colossal statue of Achilles on one of the terraces in the grounds.
