Hotel Australia
This long-popular hotel has well-kept rooms with fridge and phone, and a friendly Greek-Australian owner. There's an excellent in-house restaurant, too. You'll find it tucked away on the north side of Skala harbour.
Hotel Maltezana Beach
The most expensive accommodation in Maltezana, and on the island overall, is Hotel Maltezana Beach on the middle section of the foreshore.
Camping Astypalea
To the east of Skala is the easterly wing of the 'butterfly' - the waist being marked by a narrow isthmus that barely joins the two halves of the island.
Akti Rooms
Peaceful Akti is on the northeast side of the harbour and perched above the rocks and turquoise bay. Rooms are cosy with wall hangings, shell lights and beautiful sea views. The studios have kitchenettes.
Hotel Paradissos
Overlooking the harbour, stylish Paradissos has mint-green rooms with sofas, ornate lamps, balconies and an extra bed for kids if you need it. There’s a great cafe downstairs with fine sea views and an attached travel agency.

Just up from Akti, Thalassa’s 12 rooms boast incredible views of the harbour and bay from their spacious roof terraces. The rooms are marble floored with four-poster beds, Caribbean-blue fittings and floral bedspreads.

Right on the beach, these quaint older rooms have kitchenettes and balconies. You can literally fall out of bed onto the sand.

Villa Varvara has 12 blue-and-white painted studios overlooking a vegetable garden and is just 100m from the beach; all have TV and fridge.

Maltezana Rooms is a pretty reasonable option, just east of the quay set back 50m from the beach.
Kaith Rooms
Just off the road leading to Hora, Kaith’s rooms are spotless, colourfully decorated and have great sea views from the communal balcony. Each has a TV, fridge, kitchenette and tasteful furnishings.
