Lonely Planet review for Ancient Delphi

Of all the archaeological sites in Greece, Delphi is the one with the most potent 'spirit of place'. Built on the slopes of Mt Parnassos, overlooking the Gulf of Corinth and extending into a valley of cypress and olive trees, this World Heritage-listed site's allure lies both in its stunning setting and its inspiring ruins. The ancient Greeks regarded Delphi as the centre of the world; according to mythology, Zeus released two eagles at opposite ends of the world and they met here.

In summer, try to visit the site early to avoid the crowds and the heat.

My favorite archaeological site I've been too!

    ashleypaige recommends this,

Delphi has something for everyone. It has history, mythology, the beginnings of cultures, nature, hiking, and museums! It's a vast archaeological site set in one of the most beautiful places I've been. It sets in lush green foothills and there are many different types of sites: theaters, temples, tracks, gyms and more! Don't pass Delphi up!

An intimate authentic ancient Greek site.

Home of the oracle! I recommend staying overnight in Delphi and visiting the sites in the morning. Not only does this avoid the heat but we had the place to ourselves wasn't till we were leaving that we passed the HUGE numbers of bus tourists who had made the run out from Athens that morning.
