  10. Cycladic Art and the Greek Islands

    Blog: MuseumChick - 2 November 2010

By the end of the three weeks I spent finding love in Israel and trekking in Delphi over the summer, I was in need of a vacation from my vacation. That may sound ridiculous but let me explain- since most of my itinerary involved trekking in 100+ degree heat and I tend to do more traveling then actual vacationing by the end of two weeks I was in need of a vacation. So knowing this about myself, I scheduled the last part of our trip to be relaxing in the Greek Islands- first Santorini then taking the ferry to Mykonos....

Today it was time to hit the Islands beaches. We left the town in the small rental car, and headed for a beach in the left hand corner of the island. It is called Kalafatis Beach. The island of Mykonos, like all the Cyclades, is known for the wind, the Meltemi. The Meltemi wind usually blows in July and August but this year it is late arriving and started to blow today. The name might sound romantic and oddly soothing. But the reality is that this is a dry wind blowing from the north, it can sweep across Greek waters, churning up the sea and blowing sand around.

  14. Greek Island Hopping Adventure, Piraeus to Mykonos..

Blog: Midwife Moira's Travel Blog. With Emirates Cabin Crew on the side. - 25 September 2010

At The Piraeus Dreams Hotel I was woken by the sound of people moving cases in the corridor, and just as well they were noisy as it was past the designated wake up time. The ferry, SpeedRunner III, was due to go at 07.45, and we had to collect the ticket one hour prior to this. It was not a problem, the hotel is located about a 5 minutes walk from the harbour gate and we quickly found Gate 7, got the tickets and got on.
