Comment on Island route Ikaria to Rafina please?

Hi. Yet another Greek island trip coming up for May for a month. As before we'll fly in from Brisbane to Istanbul and make our way down the Aegean coast - a favourite area. After crossing to Ikaria and Fourni we'd like to head for Crete via Leros,Halki and Karpathos. It's rumoured there's a ferry(Prevelis?) from Sitia to Milos , possibly via Heraklion but we haven't been able to confirm this as yet. But it would be a good overnighter in a cabin if true (no replies to emails yet) A…

homestay in santorini

Hi there,
My boyfriend and I are going to spend 7 nights on Santornini in April 2015.

1) can we get an authentic local experience staying at a hotel?
2) Can we stay with a family (who has a room/bathroom for rent)?
3) How do I find these people? (internet or wait till we get there an ask around?)
4) Should we try another nearby island for the authentic Greek experience? (song, dance, food, work)

Thanks for your feedback,
Katherine

Best islands to visit in November with car.

Hi,

We are just heading into Greece now from Turkey.

Was wondering if the islands are still nice mid November. We have our own 4x4 camper and would like to bring it across on the ferry to save on accommodation if possible.

Not too keen on the real touristy things more the quiet authentic Greek Island experience.

I'm also in a wheelchair so if anyone can help with any kinda of accessibility information that would be very helpful.

Any recommendations?

1. Plakias area, 2. Easter, 3. Accommodation near airport

Hi! Again re family holiday with car in April in Crete:
1. I notice there are a lot of amazing-looking and extraordinarily cheap holiday apartments/villas in Plakias, Mirthios and area. It also seems pretty central if you're willing to drive around a bit. Are there disadvantages to staying there, that we should know about?
2. We'll be driving back to Heraklion on Good Friday and taking an early flight on Easter Saturday. Anything in Heraklion we should definitely not miss (or definitely miss)…

Arcturos

Hi everyone,

It is my first trip to Greece next year in September, I am travelling alone and have booked a tour for the first part of my trip. The tour is around Athens and around some of the islands, ending in Athens.

I have since found out about Arcturos in Nymfaio and was wondering if anyone has volunteered with them before?

Also what would be the best way to get there from Athens? This is my first trip alone and I am a under 25 so am looking for the safest option.

Thanks :)

SANTORINI'S YOUTH HOSTEL OIA -- The End Of An Era

After 34 years of hosting visitors to Santorini from every corner of the globe the Youth Hostel Oia, owned by my dear friend Manolis Karvounis, has closed its doors for good. I wish Manolis and Gabi much joy and happiness wherever their path leads them. YAMAS!

First trip to Greece!

I just booked a flight for April. I will arrive in Athens at 9 AM Sunday, April 26. Return flight out of Athens on Monday May 11. I will have fifteen days in Greece. I am a first-timer to Greece, a solo independent middle-age woman backpacker who loves the outdoors, culture and history!

I am trying to set up the most logical itinerary for myself, but have some questions for all you pros out there. I was thinking on spending a day or two in Athens upon arrival, I don't like big cities, but I do…

peloponnese or meteora

Planning a trip to Greece (and nearby Balkan countries) next year. I had been to Greece twice before but mainly limited myself to the immediate Athens area and the islands (I was much younger then). Now I would like to get to places with a more historic/local culture atmosphere. i have been focusing my research on two areas: the Peloponnese, more specifically Mystra, Monemvasia, maybe the Mani; and Meteora and up north to Thessaloniki. I will of course try to get it all in, but if I will have…
