The Archaeological Museum of Ios has displays of ceramics and other artefacts dating back to the days of Roman rule and beyond, found during archaeological digs on the island. It's worth a visit to give you some context for the island, which at first glance has otherwise little reference to its rich history.

Hora Village
Hora (population 1632) is a lovely Cycladic village with myriad laneways and simple houses. It's most charming during daylight hours when the bars are shut and it recaptures the peaceful atmosphere of other island towns. By night, Hora's tiny central square is transformed into a noisy, open-air party.

Mylopotas Beach
The busiest and most popular beach on Ios used to be littered with people sleeping rough to avoid paying for accommodation. It's still busy and parties still prevail, but sleeping here is no longer allowed. Popular for good reason, the beach is long, sandy and safe, with a good smattering of watersports centres, cafes and places to stay.
