I have travelled over 50 countries outside of Europe without a partner. Now, it looks like I will be traveling with someone who has not been outside the US and is very concerned about the availability of toilet facilities particularly in Athens. We're both in our 70's. Since this is a big deal for her, its now a big deal for me and since its her first travel outside the US, I would like to avoid unnecessary and unpleasant surprises.
Thanks again for all of you who take the time to answer.
I plan to stay in either ios, Naxos or paros in the first two weeks of August and I wonder what are my options in order to land a cheap and very basic accommodation (i need just to sleep somewhere since most of time i'm either on a beach or a party)? I wouldn't go over €30/per night.
-By using accommodation search engines (i.e. expedia, kayak...) I have only found hotels, which seem to start at 70€/day and that's too much. Where I can search for rooms in private settings?
- Would be risky to not…
I have extended family in Greece and have traveled there extensively, and one of my best friends from high school is Lebanese-American. We have always talked about, in a couple of years, doing a Greece-Lebanon trip. We could do Greece first, flying into and then out of Athens to Lebanon, but it seems to me to make more sense to just do one continuous swoop, from Athens through the islands to Rhodes/Crete to Cyprus to Lebanon, preferably all by boat, for cost and "adventure" reasons.
I just arrived in Corfu! Has anyone spent some time in Corfu, specifically Agios Gordios, who would know where I can find a good spot to watch the sunset? I'd love to hike somewhere or find a good viewing point of the beach and the backdrop of the mountains. Also any other information on natural places to go (such as good hikes, quiet beaches etc) would be amazing!!
Thanks for any information :)
This will be our first trip to Greece and we are really wanting to "check off" the following in our 11 days we have:
Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini / Thira.
We will be flying out of Florida and it looks like 1 stop overnight flights take about 15 hours or so.
Here is what I've outlined:
1 - Overnight flight to ATH landing around noon
2 - Ferry to Mykonos
3 - Mykonos
4 - Mykonos --> Santorini
5 - Santorini
6 - Santorini
7 - Santorini
8 - Santorini --> Athens
9 - Athens
10 - Athens
11 - Fly…
It's trip planning time - and now that I've read the Lonely Planet and Blue Guide, I'd like to follow up with this wonderful forum for some ideas.
I'll be in Crete Sept. 3rd-19th, probably solo most or all of the time. Flying into Chania.
I've narrowed my areas of interest to the south west area (Sfakia to Elafonisi), a few days in Chania (most likely at the end), some mountain exploration in Rethymno and/or Iraklio, perhaps some of the central southern beaches like Matala…
hi all im looking for some info on the best and cheapest way to get into Athens from the airport, we staying close to Syntagma Sqaure. i would rather not pay 40 or 50 euro on taxi if there is no need. we land in the late evening and by time we clear the airport it will by 10pm. im hoping there is buses or trains into the city. also what is the situation like at Piraeus Port regarding the the refugee crisis, the last time i checked a few months back there were many refugees at the port. does this…
I am currently planning bit of an island-hopping trip for mid-September, the last 'hop' I am hoping will be from Milos to Piraeus and then on to Hydra the same day. The only ferry schedule I can find currently that fits this plan is a Zante ferry leaving Milos at 12:30 getting in to Piraeus at 19:50. As far as I can see the last ferry of the day on to Hydra is at 20:30. My feeling is that this is cutting it pretty fine.
I am thinking I might just drop Hydra from the itinerary, I am already…
I am reaching Athens airport at 12 noon on 9th September and leave for Mykonos next early morning by flight at 6 am.
I am meeting my friends in Mykonos directly so have one day to explore Athens all alone.
I am assuming by the time i get out of the airport and check in my hotel (Oscar Hotel near Larrisa Metro) it'll be around 2pm.
Please suggest me what all can i see in a mare 6-7 hours of my day.
Obviously i will visit Acropolis. I am not very keen on museums as i am on a time crunch.
