On a whim around 8:00 at night last Friday I went to the Metropolitan Museum. That’s what I love so much about living in NYC. So much culture and access to museums at any time. Dropping in on a museum at night last minute is something that keeps me inspired. This is what I saw… [...]

  11. An Ancient Neighborhood With a New (Acropolis) Museum- Athens

    Blog: MuseumChick - 2 October 2010

So here's the scoop on the brand spanking new Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece; it's well designed, kept beautifully clean, and makes the relatively small collection of ancient Greek artifacts that the Greeks possess (given that most of the best ancient Greek artifacts have been scattered around the world at this point) look bigger and more extensive than it actually is but there are no pictures allowed in the museum (a rule I hate). So, I'll show you as much as I could get on my recent visit this August, while still respecting the museum's policies. The day started at...

  12. Greek Island Hopping Adventure, Athens.

Blog: Midwife Moira's Travel Blog. With Emirates Cabin Crew on the side. - 25 September 2010

I am sorry to say that today is the last day of my holiday, and the sound of heavy rain, thunder and lightning work me. Athens was stormy and very wet, I am glad I did most of my sightseeing yesterday.Yesterday we had put on our walking shoes and explored the Classical City of Athens,(once we had mastered crossing the road with its manic traffic). The city is large and sprawling, but the sights are located in a small and easily accessible area. The Acropolis, was all that is should have been.

  15. Gettin' Down to Traditional Tunes in Athens, Greece

    Blog: MuseumChick - 21 September 2010

It was a long and sweltering summer day in Athens when I visited the Parthenon and the brand-spanking new Acropolis Museum (I'll be posting about that visit soon). Heat stroke was a possible outcome but I made it through the day and as the evening was bringing in the setting sun and a much needed cool-down from the heat, Mr. MuseumChick and I were walking back to our hotel and as we rounded the corner to Syntagma Square in the lively section of Plaka, we found a crowd gathered around. As I got closer I could see red skirts swinging...

  21. Welcome To Athens: Where's Your Wallet?

    Blog: AlpacaSuitcase - 27 April 2010

First impressions can be lasting and for Athens’ sake let’s hope not. After taking a long bus ride from northern Greece we hopped on the Athens metro to get to our apartment where we planned to stay for a week. At our final metro stop we alighted and stood in front of a street map with quizzical looks and our mouths open…a gesture that instantly branded us as tourists. After about 15 minutes of reconnoitering our position, we headed up the escalator confident that we had an idea of where we going.
