Welcome to the UK, described by Lonely Planet in the latest UK guide as "simply one of the most beautiful islands on earth". You'll find that whilst people can appear flippant and/or sarcastic on this branch, it's only part of the unique British sense of humour so don't take it personally.

Please read this thread first before you ask a question, hopefully you'll find your answer already inside!

Feel free to add anything relevant to the thread too. Before we start though, here's some advice from…

Next time I am in Ireland I am considering climbing it but I have found scant info on it thru the internet. Even my dad, who grew up almost in its shadows, know of no one who has climbed it. Just checking if anyone has climbed it or has advice or links on it.

Thanks!

Hi everybody; we´ll travel to the Highlands with my wif eand kids (3 and 6 years) in July for three nights. We´d like to know where can I find affordable B&B for one night in Oban area, one in Skye and one in Inverness. Do you suggest any web sites? I was looking the International Youth Hostelling network.
It is possible to just look for accomodation once in the zone? or is better to book in advance?

Thanks
Regards

Juan Pablo

Hello. Hoping you all can help. I have quite an accumulation of miles on Virgin Atlantic and would like to take my 83 year old mother on a trip from the US to the UK. She has spent two weeks in London 25 years ago and, unlike me, she is not much of a repeat offender (I am very prone to finding a place I love and going back again and again) - once she has visited a place, she is ready to move on and see something new to her. The challenge now is her age and health. Having always been healthy and…

The web site http://www.discoveringbritain.org/ is now up and running. It is published by the Royal Geographic Society. I have no connection with this organisation. It is about interesting facts and features in the UK and therefore is travel related.

Hey everybody!

Shortly, I will be traveling to Ireland with my niece for two weeks along the Wild Atlantic Way! I have the route we will drive and most of the places we want to hit up, but the problem is I'm not sure where to spread the time over the two weeks and stop? Aside from Cork and Galway, where would you recommend stopping day-to-day for the night? Are there any areas worth two days of wandering around? We will start in Dublin and head to Cork in our rental car. From there we wish to…

Disclaimer: I'm posting this in the UK branch because I'm looking for input from UK based posters. I'll be cross-posting in the Europe branch later.

I've had a massively stressful few months, involving close personal loss and I need to take a bit of time out for sorting out my head. My time is limited so I need to restrict this to a 3 night / 4 day trip, max flight time of 4 hours from a mainland UK airport. I'll be travelling alone and I want culture, food & history, with the emphasis on…

Hello- I am looking to plan a trip to Scotland and Ireland. I am going to be at London-Gatwick on July 10th and have about 8-10 days to travel around.

I was trying to find an 18-35 tour group but they seem to be all booked up.

Any suggestions on an itinerary would be amazing!
