Welcome to the UK, described by Lonely Planet in the latest UK guide as "simply one of the most beautiful islands on earth". You'll find that whilst people can appear flippant and/or sarcastic on this branch, it's only part of the unique British sense of humour so don't take it personally.
Please read this thread first before you ask a question, hopefully you'll find your answer already inside!
Feel free to add anything relevant to the thread too. Before we start though, here's some advice from…
Dear Wise Travelers of Lonely Planet,
Three of us are traveling to Edinburgh in late August, and it appears that it will save us a bit of money to book a round trip ticket to Dublin from New York, and then use one of the smaller regional airlines (Ryanair, Aer Lingus) to fly from Dublin to Edinburgh. (We'll still save money even with the baggage charges from the regionals.)
A few questions:
1) Is this a crazy idea?
2)If it is not, how much time should I allow between arrival in Dublin and…
(By the way, I have posted this on the France forum as well)
I have been given a fully functional iphone 5S (which is not set up with a number or carrier, and which I am told is unlocked), for use during a trip to France and other countries in Europe (including the UK). My intent is to use it primarily, if not exclusively, for its GPS program. My experience with these "smartphones" is non-existent (I use an old "flip phone" mobile for talking only), so please understand that my vocabulary for…

My apologies for what is surely a dumb (though short) question, but why would anyone ever purchase a 1-day Travelcard if it costs 12 pounds and the regular Oyster Card has a 6 pound daily limit?
I was not able to find an answer on a search, although I did find a good deal of helpful information on 7-day Travelcards.
I would really appreciate your help. I currently hold a UK Ancestry Visa which expires in August, 2019. I would like to apply for indefinite leave to remain prior to the expiry of my visa, however in order to do so I must have lived in the UK for 5 consecutive years. I did not arrive in the UK until October 2014, which means there is a 2 month discrepancy between my visa expiring and me having lived in the UK for 5 years.
If anyone has experienced this, can you please explain to me…
I'm going to Dublin for work end of september, and I thought of leaving early to explore Wicklow NP, hiking.
I'll have about 3full days (friday-sunday, including getting there and away) and will be relying on public transport and sleeping in a tent along the way. Any suggestions about an interesting route I'd be able to do in that amount of time?
