Welcome to the UK, described by Lonely Planet in the latest UK guide as "simply one of the most beautiful islands on earth". You'll find that whilst people can appear flippant and/or sarcastic on this branch, it's only part of the unique British sense of humour so don't take it personally.

Please read this thread first before you ask a question, hopefully you'll find your answer already inside!

Feel free to add anything relevant to the thread too. Before we start though, here's some advice from…

I would like to get there as quickly as possible by public transit! :)

I've looked on trainline, but wondering what the easiest and quickest way is. If I go into Leeds, then to York, then a bus to Helmsley, that seems that it could take a while.

Is there any other way, say, through Harrogate or something, directly from Leeds airport?

I've been looking through a few options, just wondering if there's some other option I haven't thought of!

Thanks!

Hi,

My parents (in their mid-50's) are attending a wedding in London in July and are planning for a vacation in Scotland after that. They have around 9-10 days for the vacation. The itinerary we have planned so far is:

Flight/train from London to Edinburgh
-2 days in Edinburgh
-rent a car from Edinburgh and go north towards Perth, half a day in Perth and half day in St Andrews. 1 Day
-next day drive up north in Cairngorm national park and stay there for the night and explore it the next day. 1

Now i am planning to go to Uk for my further studies, Will i have a problem in getting the visa? I do have the document given to me in the Croation airport which says that my entry was invalid because I…

Hi.
I'm planning on travelling to the UK and Ireland for 4 months. I'm Australian and planning on flying in and out of Edinburgh in Scotland. I am planning to spend 3.5months in Ireland and wondered if the 180day tourist visa you get when entering the UK can be used in Ireland or do I get a new tourist visa when I fly to Dublin?
In saying that, I will be doing short weekend trips to Europe, so is that going to make it difficult to re-enter Ireland each time?
Any info would be great!! I'm…

I received a text message from the UK Visa Office this morning stating that my processed application has been received. Does that mean that I can collect it? I'm not able to make it there for two weeks. Is there any way to find out if it's accepted or rejected?

Going to Canterbury in July for 2 days. I would appreciate recommendations for good restaurants. Really interested in local fare and moderate prices.
Thanks

A few of us are planning to visit Scotland in late September 2017, we will not be renting a vehicle and will not be taking any scheduled tours. What we would like is some suggestions on hidden treasures in Scotland places that are a must see, places to eat and stay.
We are finding the more we look and read we get overwhelmed, there are some of the popular places we will be going to, but would like some inside suggestions.
Thank you,
