Ghana Upper West Wenchi Wa Tumu Bolga

Hi there
I’m planning a trip to the Upper West of Ghana doing the loop Wenchi Wa Tumu Bolgatanga. I have read about the Wechia Hippo Sanctuary and WA Naa’s palace. Can anybody provide some input on other interesting places, nice sceneries, things to do, home stays etc. in this off the beaten track region? Any advice is appreciated. I’m going to drive by car so I don’t rely on public transport.
Thank you

Few tourists in Ghana

A friend of mine has just returned from a comprehensive tour of Ghana, taking in both the North, middle and South of the country, and said that hotel/guest houses are reporting a drop of about 80% in customers due to the Ibola scare. It is a real shame. On top of the economic woes the country is suffering from this comes as an extra blow.

Accra mid-end hotel with airport pick-up?

Bradt´s latest guidebook on Ghana (6th ed.) recommends that if you arrive at the airport at dark, you are better of making an advance booking at a hotel which has a shuttle service (to avoid being mobbed by taxi drivers). However, the book does not mention which of the listed hotels provide this airport pickup service. When googling, I only get high-end hotels, and if I look at the websites (of the Bradt listed hotels) they don´t necessarily mention whether they offer pickup (and I don´t have…

Flight Accra - Takoradi

Hi,

I'm currently living in Accra and am looking to buy flights to Takoradi - probably flying out on the 27th October and returning on the 3rd November. I've seen a couple of posts on here but nothing that recent so just looking for some advice on a couple of questions:

Which is more reliable, Antrak Air or Starbow? They have flights at similar times but will have to connect to an intl flight on the way back so want to ensure there is no delay. Is this a sensible amount of time to allow for…

Trip Report - Kumasi

I was in Ghana and Togo for about 3 weeks in September. I’ve divided up my trip report which covers Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Winneba, Amedzofe and Ada Foah in Ghana; Aneho and Kpalime in Togo. Yes, my posts are long, but as most guide book information is non-existent or outdated, I hope this information will help the next person planning a trip there.

Kumasi:

Tried staying at the Kumasi Catering Rest House, recommended in LP. Didn’t make advance reservations, and they were booked. Their…

Accra centre supermarkets

When I type in supermarket on google maps I don't get many results in Accra centre, just one called Saagar in Osu.

I'm looking for a big supermarket with fresh meat and fish department, fruit, veggies and a reasonable selection of western products (not that I buy many of those, basically just oats for breakfast I'm not a restaurant kind of person).

Any suggestions in Accra centre?

Fixed taxi routes, times and fares?

There's supposed to be some fixed taxi routes for example between Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Osu for something like 1000 old GHC? Does anyone have recent info on these prices?

Most important I'd like to know what time in the evening they stop and I'll be forced to pay for a regular taxi.

Any info on the cheap fixed rides would be appreciated.

How much for a regular taxi from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Osu? 3 new GHC? I have very old info.

Cholera warning!

Ghana has got a problem with cholera at the moment, particularly in Accra.

For those of you who like 'western' dining I would be very careful! I've just been sent photos of the 'Dynasty' Chinese restaurant which was shut down yesterday by health officials for insanitary conditions in the kitchen and its surroundings (totally disgusting in the photos, despite the beautiful exterior!!!)

The famous Frankie's and also Noble House Chinese Restaurant are also under scrutiny & were cautioned to…
