Lonely Planet review for Lighthouse

For a great view of the city and the busy and colourful fishing harbour (haze and pollution permitting), climb to the top of the old Lighthouse near James Fort.

    Lighthouse Bar Benefitting Children

    actish61 recommends this,

When I visited the Jamestown Lighthouse, I found an amazing bar/CBO (community based organization) and cultural dance troupe located just behind it, on the beach below.

This organization called Jaynii operates a bar on the beach below that has performances and community events. All the proceeds from this beachside spot go to their non-profit called "Streetwise." Streetwise provides 50 street children in the Jamestown area with school fees, uniforms and 2 meals daily to help them go to school. The kids are always running around on the beach, and can be found sitting there in the evening doing their homework.

The bar is cheap and beautiful (straw huts overlooking the ocean), Jay and Nii who own the place are two of the world's most wonderful people, and they will perform drum and dance numbers any time of day for anyone who shows up--you just need to ask. The kids will probably even join in!

Jamestown really is a beautiful part of the city, and this is a really meaningful place to seek out. If you can, stop in, grab a drink, see a show, all while helping to fund the education of local kids.
