Romantic era composer Robert Schumann was born and spent the first seven years of his life in this rather modest house. Exhibits trace the various life stations of the man who suffered from mental illness later in life and died in an institution at age 46. A highlight is the piano once played by Schumann’s wife, Clara Wieck, herself a noted pianist. Also note the Schumann monument on nearby Hauptmarkt, which is part of the 'Schumann Trail' – ask for a pamphlet at the tourist office.
