"Plan" a visit!

PlanWirtschaft, or “Planned economy”, is more than a place to indulge in nostalgia. Yes, its name references a time that has passed and there are East German relics scattered around. But PlanWirtschaft stands on its own two legs as a great little restaurant and bar tucked away in a corner of Dresden’s Neustadt. Here you have a refuge from both the tour groups who swarm the old town and the young punks who gather in the streets north of the Elbe. While the buffet is excellent for breakfast, there are old fashioned German dishes throughout the day. Think of sausages and stews and you’re on the right path. The beers are tasty and fresh, but in many ways it’s the atmosphere that makes PlanWirtschaft so enticing. Inside there are snug tables with candles gently illuminating the dark rooms. Outside it’s the garden that wins over both tourists and locals alike, giving a sunnier option when you’re in need of fresh air. PlanWirtschaft is an ideal place to hang out for a while in one of Germany’s coolest cities!
