Gebrüder Bauer
Yes, there really are two Gebrüder (brothers), and they look pretty much the spitting image of each other. This place established itself quickly on the Frankfurt scene because the food, wine and other drinks are delicious. It's very gay and everyone-else friendly, and the brothers do a great and affordable take-along picnic basket (order ahead).

The food in this upmarket pub-restaurant relies on pure flavours and the wine seduces your tongue into parts of your mouth you didn't know were there. The downside of this wonderful Frankfurt institution is that the air can be shocking at times, especially if someone's tugging on a cigar or a pipe at the next table. Stylish modern German cuisine with plenty of international extras are the order of the day.

Without claiming to be something special, this place somehow is: loyal regulars, students and those on payroll tread a path here for traditional fare. No wonder: Pielok has been dishing up reasonably priced home-cooked meals for over 60 years.

The colourful facade and the paintings inside give this apple wine tavern the edge on many others. Try local specialities like Handkäse mit Musik , the smelly cheese that keeps reminding you, and everyone around you, just how charming Frankfurt can be. The enclosed yard becomes an outdoor restaurant in summer.
