Berlin – Poor, but sexy (in most places)
Blog: No Beaten Path - 31 August 2010
Today was our last full day in Berlin. Due to the late night before, we didn’t end up heading out until late afternoon, but I was determined we would explore one last area we hadn’t been before.

A long day and night in Berlin – the Zoo and Lange Nacht der Museen
Blog: No Beaten Path - 29 August 2010
Today was one of those days of pushing my luck – I had made sure I had a ticket to Lange Nacht der Museen (more on this below) which meant we were in for a long night. So I tried … Continue reading →

Slow travel’s Berlin chapter
Blog: PocketCultures - 4 August 2010
Advocates of slow travel argue that all too often the potential pleasure of the journey is lost by too eager anticipation of arrival. Slow travel, it is asserted, is a state of mind which allows travellers to engage more fully with communities along their route, often favouring visits to spots enjoyed by local residents rather than merely following guidebooks

Berlin Is Growing On Us
Blog: thebeergeek.com - 1 July 2010
We had two more days to explore Berlin which gave us time to venture outside the city center. We called it ‘traveling off the map’ as a number of our brewery destinations weren’t on the free Tourist office maps. Armed with the not-always-reliable Google maps, we hopped on the U-Bahn ready to explore Berlin’s neighborhoods. [...]

Giving Berlin A Second Chance
Blog: thebeergeek.com - 29 June 2010
We last visited Berlin on our first trip to Germany in 2001. Earlier on that journey, we visited Munich and completely fell in love with the Bavarian capital. During our stay in Berlin, all we could think was that it wasn’t Munich. The warm and cozy feel we got in Munich was not present in [...]

Rubber stamp
Blog: Sophie's World - 17 June 2010
When Georgia at GingerBeirut invited us Lonely Planet bloggers to submit a rubber stamp post to the fourth Blogsherpa carnival, I took a while deciding which bureaucratic experience to share. I’ve had a few memorable ones, but which one to choose? Crossing into that peculiar non-state Transdniestr (surprisingly easy)? Being refused entry into Guinea Bissau [...]Rubber stamp is a post from: Sophie's World

The Neues Museum in Berlin is Stranded on Museum Island
Blog: MuseumChick - 16 June 2010
I know what you are thinking...how could she be exploring Museum Island when the Currywurst Museum is right down the road! It seems that in Germany currywurst is so adored that they gave it a museum. As intriguing as the invention of hotdogs slathered in spicy sauce is, I skipped the Currywurst Museum and went to Museum Island, stranded in the middle of the River Spree in Berlin, to visit one of their four great museums, the Neues Museum, famous for its Ancient Egyptian artifacts. I looked around for the martini hut but this island was dry. However I did...

Love and Sex and Backpacking World’s Top 5 HOSTELS for it

Most of us who travel are usually after new, exciting experiences (and I don’t just mean sightseeing). Most of us are looking for a connection of some sort – whether it be through exploring new cultures, searching for love, or simply some hot, passionate sex that makes the man feel like a man, truly standing [...]

A*RT!? Happens- Random Richard in Berlin
Blog: MuseumChick - 12 June 2010
I was very proud of myself because I spotted this Richard Serra sculpture without the help of a plaque, tour guide or book. Running into it was a surprise, a terrific surprise for me because Serra is one of my favorite modern sculptors. I saw a retrospective of his in 2007 at the MoMA in NYC and was awed by the labyrinth-like quality of his sculptures and the way you feel like you are entering a time warp when you walk through his work. It's sometimes dizzying but always interesting. Like I said, there is nothing marking this sculpture as...

Berlin – the other love
Blog: The Adventures of D - 11 June 2010
I may love Madrid, but Berlin … man, it comes in a close second. Seriously. It may have been really cold … and windy … and rainy in Berlin, but after escaping Borris‘, I was hit smack in the face with all of its awesomeness. First, it was Hostel Aloha. It didn’t even bother me [...]

Bleak to Chic- The East Side Gallery Berlin
Blog: MuseumChick - 9 June 2010
Berlin has turned the most drab slab of concrete into a street-art connoisseur's haven. One thing I love about the East Side Gallery, besides that is an interesting burst of personality and color on a side of Berlin that would have remained grey if not for the reunification of Germany, is that it is "open" 24 hours a day. Being an open air gallery means after you have had a few of Germany's world renowned beers you can come down to the East Side Gallery and over analyze the abstract and political street art. That's not what I did...I'm just...

I’ll always remember my first time … Couch Surfing
Blog: The Adventures of D - 9 June 2010
Up until Berlin, I was a couch surfing virgin. Yup. Never had I slept on anyone’s couch via the very cool CouchSurfing. The Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin Smells
Blog: MuseumChick - 5 June 2010
Being my first time to Berlin, Germany I did the rounds at all the tourist sights and met some locals (ie. storm troopers and native American Indians) at the Brandenburg gate. After defeating evil, I was super excited to visit the Guggenheim in Berlin! I walked up the famous Unter den Linden street, which means "Under the Linden", linden, which means limes. It's all very confusing, especially since I didn't see any of these alleged fruits. Anyway...I found the Guggenheim... Were you expecting an outrageous building? I was.

The World’s Top 5 Cities for Love and Sex and Backpacking
Blog: Backpacking on the Cheap - 3 June 2010
Let’s face it, we are all animals at our core, and as Osho once said “the worst thing you can say to someone is don’t be an animal”. Men want it, women obviously hunger for it – so what’s the problem? Societal norms, our parents, inner critics/superego’s and all that other garbage. Which is why backpacking [...]

A BRIEF intermission: Chasing spring … two months in
Blog: The Adventures of D - 7 May 2010
A year ago, when I lived in Atlanta, I remember marveling at the city's sheer gorgeousness with the changing of the season. The pink flowers that would sprout from the winding trees. The bright green grass that would pop up overnight.
