Europa-Center
The Europa-Center was Berlin’s first high-rise when it opened in 1965. These days the 20-storey temple of commerce feels dated, even ugly, and teems with tired and tacky shops. Only the water-lily fountain and the psychedelic Flow of Time Clock by Bernard Gitton are worth closer inspection, or catch the lift to the 20th floor to enjoy the panorama. At night, if you’re feeling flush, you might check out the view and the crowd at the snazzy Puro Skylounge. Wasserturm
Nicknamed ‘Dicker Hermann’ (Fat Hermann), this 1873 brick water tower was an improvised concentration camp under the Nazis. After the war the tower was converted into flats.
