Lonely Planet review for Mausoleum
Framed by trees, west of a carp pond, the neoclassical Mausoleum (1810) was built as the final resting place of Queen Luise but twice expanded to make room for other royals; first in 1840 for Luise’s husband King Friedrich III, and then again in the 1890s for Emperor William I and his wife Augusta. Their ornate marble sarcophagi are great works of art, but unfortunately you can’t get close enough to truly admire them. A few other royals are in the crypt but it’s not open to the public.
