    Golgatha

The pilgrimage to this beer garden in the Viktoriapark is a beloved summer ritual. Kick back with a foamy lager in a deck chair downstairs or catch the day’s final rays on the rooftop terrace. After 10pm a DJ hits the decks. Many paths lead to Golgatha but it’s easiest to find by entering the park from Katzbachstrasse, corner of Monumentenstrasse, then take your first right.

    Lunas Strandgarten

Perhaps a little too neat and chic for this Friedrichshain grunge strip, but still a fun spot to chill, play beach volleyball or cool off in the tiny pool. Gets street cred for being next to the railway track and brownie points for the cool street art mural.

    Cafe am Neuen See

This lakeside Bavarian-style beer garden in Tiergarten park feels like a micro-vacation from the city bustle. Cold beers go well with the bratwurst, pizza and pretzels. Romantic types can even rent a boat and take their sweetie for an aquatic glide.

    Heinz Minki

This rambling beer garden with its old trees and coloured twinkle lights is an enchanting spot for wrapping up a day of turf-pounding. It’s behind an old customs house whose red-brick walls also enclose a teensy bar that’s open year-round.

    Prater

Berlin's oldest beer garden (since 1837) oozes traditional charm and is a fun spot for guzzling a cold one beneath the chestnut trees. Bring the kids! There's a small play area just for them.
