Landgericht Nürnberg-Fürth
Nazis were tried in 1945 to 1946 for crimes against peace and humanity in Schwurgerichtssaal 600 (Court Room 600) of what is today the Landgericht Nürnberg-Fürth. The Allies held the trials in Nuremberg for obvious symbolic reasons, in addition to the fact that there was (and still is) a secure underground tunnel between the courthouse and adjacent prison (though today it only has female prisoners).

Marienkapelle
Balthasar Neumann is buried in the late-Gothic Marienkapelle, built between 1377 and 1481, alongside numerous Franconian knights and burghers. Among them is Konrad von Schaumberg (died in 1499), for whom Riemenschneider designed the tombstone. The prolific sculptor produced the sandstone figures of Adam and Eve above the entrance portal.

Altes Rathaus
The Altes Rathaus (1616-22) is a hulk of a building with elegant Renaissance interiors. Lochgefängnisse (medieval dungeons) lie beneath, consisting of 12 small cells and a torture chamber.

This 12-cell death row and torture chamber must be seen on a 30-minute guided tour (held every half-hour) and might easily put you off lunch.

Michaelskirche Crypt
This dank crypt is the final resting place of the 'Mad King' (Ludwig II) whose humble tomb is usually drowned in flowers.
