Lonely Planet review for Bratwursthäusle

Seared over a flaming beech-wood grill, the little links sold at this rustic inn arguably set the standards for Rostbratwürste across the land. You can dine in the timbered restaurant or on the terrace with views of the Hauptmarkt.

    Step into another world

    button77 recommends this,

As if Nuermberg were not magical enough, you step into this fabulous place and are in a different world. The rough wooden tables and chairs provide a great setting for this restaurant. The tiny "Nuernberger" sausages are delicious, served with either "kraut" or potato salad. And if you can make it through 12 sausages you even get them served on a heart-shaped tin plate.
But the best thing about this place is the myth (or true story - your choice) about how the sausages came into existance:
They are the size of your pinkie finger (so really rather small). Legend lets us believe that Albrecht Duerer (the famous Nuermberg artist, who incidentally lived only minutes from the "Haeusle") used to get so caught up in his work that he would forget to eat. To make sure he wasn't disturbed he would lock the door to his studio. His poor wife feared that Albrecht would starve to death, so she went to the local butcher ("Metzger") and requested sausages so small that they would fit through the keyhole to Albrechts studio. And that is how the Nuermberger Bratwuerste came about.
