Lonely Planet review for Bolero
About 30 different tapas are the mainstay of this sprawling bodega. Rustic wooden tables and candlelight transport you straight to southern Spain, as does the beer garden's brio.

Bolero isn't exactly in the heart of Bamberg but in this tiny town a five minute walk from the city centre takes you into the former jewish quarter. Now this quaint and beautiful little street is home to many of Bamberg's students and therefore Bolero is ideal if you want to get away from the tourists and chat to the locals.
The menu is mainly Spanish and the tapas are excellent to share over a glass of wine, a cocktail (come during happy hour!) and some good conversation.
When you arrive or leave glance up at the houses arround you! Next door is the "Eisbaer" or polar bear. This used to be one of Bamberg's many breweries and the polar bear is still there.
You will also see the irony in the many madonnas that surround you, looking down on you - quite something considering you are in the jewish street an quarter of Bamberg. Also pay note to the house that seems to be at the end of the street. This is where the german kids' movie "Am Samstag kommt das Sam zurueck" was filmed.
Bolero might not be anything out of the ordinary but it takes you into the heart of the real Bamberg and that just goes to show that the city's quiet corners are every bit as charming as it's tourist-filled main drags.
