Lonely Planet review for Mutso

From Shatili the track continues 3km northeast to the border of Chechnya. Before the border you'll encounter a 'No Entry' sign, but you can turn south up the Andaki valley to almost-empty Mutso , about 8km from Shatili. Mutso's roofless old village on a very steep rock pinnacle across the river is one of the most spectacular in Khevsureti, with large stone tombs in which you can see human skulls.

Ardoti is 6km further up the valley beyond Mutso. From Andaki (uninhabited), a similar distance beyond Ardoti, begins the very steep route over the 3431m Atsunta Pass into Tusheti.

    one of the best of Georgia

    shoda recommends this,

    I have been and I agree with the review found on some other website:
    "The stunning ruines of the old Khevsur village are perched on a steep, rocky hill, within 3-4 hours of moderate walk (or 1/2 hour of 4x4 drive) from Shatili. And it sure is worth the trip! Way up is quite demanding, but do yourself a favour and don't give up. Go all the way to the top - this is the only way to really appreciate the amazing view and amazing courage of the people who built this place and inhabited it. On the top you'll also find a Khati - semi-pagan semi-christian shrine where it appears that people still leave offerings to this very day (We found a small nylon bag full of coins! Which we left untouched, of course). The surrounding green, steep mountains are also dotted with ruins of unknown nature. The whole atmosphere is somewhat surreal. one of the most impressive places we've been to in Georgia."
    p.s. u can hike to Mutso from Shatili it is not too far:)))
    how to get to Shatili: I would suggest you take a bus from Tbilisi to Shatili(there are direct buses for tourist season) on Wednesday-Saturday 9AM (and comes back the nest day afternoon) from Didube station(be there around 8 just any case it gets full earlier it may leave); it costs 20 GEL(=8 eur); another option is for 10 GEL to reach Barisakho(it is regular bus) and then if you are not in a hurry walk to Shatili, it may take 1/2 days but hitchhiking is a great idea especially if you do it on Saturday

    I think lonely planet should recommend it more!!!
    There is 2 hour hike from Shatili. You can rent a car too. During summer there is a road and transportation twice a week. During non-tourist season or any day you can take a bus to Barisakho and from it you can do hiking/hitchhiking;
