A wonderful tour of the fascinating Meskhetian history.

    peggya recommends this,

I had a personal tour by a local historian who spoke English as well as I spoke Georgian, but who managed to get the message across to a fellow enthusiast. The Museum covers everything from local fauna (including a 100-year-old butterfly display, a collection of moldering taxidermy, and a mammoth tusk), flora, a wonderful array of weaponry, traditional outfits and farming equipment, the history of Borzhom's mineral water and turpentine industries, and a remarkable display of artifacts from the Romanov palace. Paintings line the stairwell, and I was even invited to the inner sanctum to see the portraits of local poets etc.. And then, downstairs, is the fascinating ancient anthropology of the Meskhetian region!

A must see for anyone truly interested in all aspects of Georgia.

Good for: history, art, anthropology, fauna, weaponry, farming, Colchian artifacts, flora
