Hi,
I am planning to travel for a week in Georgia in late October and I'd love to get some answers that I can't seem to find.
1. I've been told that getting to Mestia/Svaneti region at that time of year is nearly impossible. Is that true? Are there trains and buses to Mestia on late October?
2. I'm planning on renting a car and driving to Kazbegi from Tbilisi. I see that this option is pretty unpopular. Why is that? Are the roads hard to drive in?
3. If I decide to rent a car and keep the week…

Hello!

I am going to georgia in october for one week. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Is it safe to travel here alone?
  2. What is a recommended hike?
  3. Would i meet other people to hike with once I arrive?

Thanks!

I'm planning to trek in Georgia in early September, and I'm trying to decide on a region. My sense is that Svaneti is more interesting culturally, but Kazbegi might have higher mountains (more challenging treks?) and possibly better scenery. Thoughts from those who've been to both?

For anyone interested in traveling to Georgia/Armenia, I've just posted a new blog entry on my recent trip there just over the last 2.5 weeks. It's more of a personal diary with a collection of my musings and favorite photos, not so much a "guide" on traveling there (that's what LP books and this forum are for, if you want that kind of info). But it's a nice little glance for anyone considering a visit the area, which I highly recommend!

Dear travelers. me and my friend Katri will be in Georgia from next Tuesday untill 7th September. We are planning to hike in Svaneti (Mestia - Ushguli) and also around Shatili - we dont know which order yet:). We dont have tents/sleeping bags, so would go for Couchsurfing/homestays. Otherwise all kinds of freestyle adventures welcome.
If anybody is around there the same time, please write, maybe we can share the road. And of course we'd love to meet friendly Georgian people. very excited xxxx

Abano Pass

Hello,
My boyfriend and I will be traveling on Monday to Georgia and want to get to Omalo with an offroad motorcycle. That is via Abano Pass as I understand. We both have experience with riding the motorcycle, so the main concern is the road condition. The tourist information centers told us that the road is quite ok but that we should hire a jeep. Could anyone please give additional information on the Abano Pass and suggestion if we can continue our plan? Thank you.

Hi all,

I'm travelling to Georgia with my fiancée next month for 8 nights, and just wanted a bit of advice on a few things. Since we're not in the country for long and we want a relatively relaxed holiday we've booked accommodation in Tbilisi for 2 nights, Kazbegi for 3 nights, then back to Tbilisi for a further 3 nights. Our plan is to use Tbilisi as a base for a few day trips out to nearby places rather than moving to somewhere new every night or two (we've done quite a few trips like that…
