This post to recommend who was a guide and now is a friend for me. Lopé is the main park in Gabon, and Ghislain Ngonga is the man you need. He brought us on the track of the gorillas in the jungle. I have done quite a few safaris, treks etc.. Spotting animals in the wild is my passion. On the way we also met mandrills and chimpanzee! But this was the best animal watching experience I ever had. Ghislain has been following gorillas for 16 years and he is very talented for that. He also runs…
From a USA prospective...
Phones more reliable than WiFi
You could visit Ivindo/Kongou Falls, Mikongo Vision and Loango in 2 weeks if you know contacts
Read the Bradt book
Stay at the Tropicana next to airport (yet on the beach) in LBV
Had great and fair luck depending how you look at it; Loango was the best in my case but hundreds $US per night.
Write me if you have questions. I went alone
I am looking into planning a trip in August. I will be flying from New York City. My plan would be to fly to Libreville, Gabon. I would spend a couple of days exploring the city and any other tourist attractions around it. I would then travel by car/bus to Lope National Park. I would like to have a tour guide and explore the park for 4-7 days.
Then I would return to Libreville and take a boat to Sao Tome. I would like to spend 5-7 days here. Then I will return to Libreville and fly back to New…
These are my experiences with e-visa for Gabon where the conclusion is that you should go for the friendly and fecrive Embassy in London if you live in Europe and good luck otherwise - enjoy the e-visa fun below :-)
We are three friends who have just climbed Mt Cameroon and wanted to visit another 'difficult ' African country afterwards. After having even more 'fun' with visa for Equatorial Guinea (post will follow) we gave up and applied for Gabon. We all wrote the same with 1-2 days between.…
Does anyone have any info on getting a double entry visa for Gabon in Either Kinshasa or Brazzaville? Documents needed, cost, timeframe info would be appreciated it.
I'm going to be in Gabon from the 11th Dec - 17th Dec as a transit from Príncipe to Joberg and am going to be doing a trip up to Lope and into Mikongo. If anyone fancies the trip or is doing the trip around that time anyway, let me know as always best doing it with someone else! (also if anyone has any little tips or special recommendations they're more than welcome)
i am hoping to visit Gabon in January for the african nations cup and some national parks
Ihave just had my e visa request rejected, with no information given as to why
or any contact has been ignored
Has this happened to anyone else ? can i re apply in the future?
should I use a potentially expensive visa organising company ?
or go direct to London or Paris and the Embassy ?
I'm going to have about 11 nights in Gabon in the middle of November and am trying to make some last minute plans
My main priorities are seeing elephants/buffalo on the beach, a chance for surfing hippos, and gorillas.
I'm thinking of doing about 5 nights in Loango, a 2 night/3 day Mikongo Visions excursion in Lope, a night in Pongara to see turtles, and the remainder in Libreville.
1) Is either South or North Loango better for hippo surfing chances? I'm having better luck with…
