Moonlight Cinema in Paris: Cinéma au Clair de Lune
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 10 August 2009
August in Paris is all about slowing down and appreciating life’s little pleasures. In other words, you have an excuse to do absolutely nothing. In that spirit, the Forum des Images invites you to sit back and let them do the work, as they bring classic and contemporary films to you — for free!

The Hidden Garden of Paris
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 7 August 2009
One day years ago, I was walking along the rue de Grenelle exploring the 7th arrondissement of Paris and decided to take a detour on the Boulevard des Invalides. There was a tiny little break in the wall I was strolling beside, and I caught a sliver of a glimpse into a beautiful garden. I was mesmerized and tried to position myself to see more. I needed to know more about this hidden garden. Finally, I walked to the rue de Varenne to see if there was any way I could sneak in. As it happened, I didn't have to sneak in. I only needed pay a few francs to get past the guard.

Loire Valley Restaurants (Part 1 of 2)
Blog: An American in London - 7 August 2009
I spent weeks scouring French and English-language newspapers and sites, trying to find good recs on where to eat while cycling in the Loire Valley. Most sources were outdated (i.e., more than three years old). Chowhound, SlowTrav, eGullet, Lonely Planet, google blog searches . . . all my usual on-line sources [...]

we (heart) paris
Blog: where the wild things are - 5 August 2009
Not only is the 5th district packed full of open-air markets and lovely flower shops, but it has a Bikram yoga studio! If Louie finds stage work, it'll be like we are at home. Two nights ago we went for a walk along the Sienne toward St. Germain de Pres, and we discovered hundreds of people waltzing to live music along the river! How romantic..

A Timeless Lunch

So my table reservation for 12 – six adults, six kids – is confirmed for Saturday. And with what relish I am looking forward to it, all the more so because I will lunch on the exact same meal I savoured so smugly last year when researching Lonely Planet’s Languedoc-Roussillon guide. This is where the [...]

Paris by Appointment: Paris’ Secret Supper Club
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 4 August 2009
Over the last few years there’s been an influx of American chefs in Paris. Fusing American-style entrepreneurialism and experimentation with France’s gastronomic history, they have carved out a cross-cultural niche in Paris’ contemporary dining scene. Two pioneers in this delicious movement are American chefs Braden and Laura. In 2007, the couple moved from Seattle to Paris to set up Hidden Kitchen, an underground, word-of-mouth, dining destination located in their Parisian flat.

Mellow Paris: Why We Love August in Paris
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 3 August 2009
You may have heard rumors that Paris empties out in August. As it turns out, the rumors are largely true. But before you start envisioning a Parisian ghost town—tumbleweeds rolling down the Champs-Elysées—take it from us: August is a wonderful time to be in Paris. As many locals head to the coast and many businesses close up for the month, you can feel the city’s pulse slow down. Traffic decreases, picnickers multiply, people become friendlier, they linger in parks and enjoy balmy evenings on café terraces throughout the city. In August, Paris settles and simply enjoys itself.

Rosa Jackson: The Best Sandwich in Paris
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 31 July 2009
Jambon-beurre. They are just two apparently humble ingredients, yet choose them carefully, tuck them into a crackly-crusted baguette, add a swipe of Dijon mustard and you have one of the world's most extraordinary sandwiches. No-one understands this better than the staff at Le Petit Vendôme in Paris, a boisterous Auvergnat café around the corner from the Hotel Ritz.

Loire a Velo – Pretty Brilliant
Blog: An American in London - 30 July 2009
I’m sitting across the street from Chateau de Chaumont in the Loire Valley, happy to finally have Internet access for the first time in almost a week.
