Itinerary
Day 1 Rendezvous at St Gervais or nearby, commence snowshoe walk
Meet at St Gervais and following a short introduction to snowshoeing commence the days hike. Depending on conditions, this could take place in the Bionnasay Valley, along the famous trail 'Sentier du Baroque' or to Mer de Glace (sea of ice) on the northern slopes of Mont Blanc. Midway through the day we stop for lunch. An example itinerary follows. Bionnassay Glacier: the hike takes us through the Bionnassay Valley to the foot of the imposing glacier which snakes down from Aiguille de Bionnassay (4052m). Before setting off there will be instructions on the use of the snowshoes in varying conditions. The walk takes in exceptional views of Mont Blanc and the snow crested Dômes de Miage. Later we continue to our chalet for overnight accommodation.
Day 2 Continue exploring Contamines Nature Reserve, trip concludes
The last snowshoe takes place in the Contamines-Montjoie Nature Reserve, which covers an area of 5500 hectares. Within the confines of the reserve are alpine lakes, the Layat meadows, glaciers and an abundance of fauna such as chamois and ibex. The views will be ample reward for the frequent ascents.
