Château de Blois
Serving as a terrific crash course in Loire chateau architecture, each of this outstanding castle's four wings reflects the favoured style of a different period: Gothic (13th century), Flamboyant Gothic (1498-1503), early Renaissance (1515-24) and classical (1630s). Highlights include the spiral staircase in the François I wing and the Musée des Beaux-Arts.

St-Louis Cathedral
Towering over Blois on the city's eastern hill, the beautiful Cathédrale St-Louis was rebuilt in late-Gothic style following the devastating hurricane of 1678. It's worth the hike up to look inside and to take in the lovely view from the Jardines de l'Évêché (Gardens of the Bishop's Palace) nearby.
